Montréal is popular for dumplings! I suspect due to its geography, northern Chinese cuisine gained popularity in Chinatown. Mai Xiang Yuan is one spot. It resembles a hole-in-the-wall on street side, but its dumpling logo is can’t-miss. We tried a plate of 15 steamed dumplings lamb & cilantro, along with a platter of 15 fried dumplings pork, cilantro & shrimp. The plump steamed dumplings were flavourful with lamb juice, even before dipping in vinegar/soy sauce. The thick handmade wrappers were just ideal for such traditional dumplings. The fried dumplings were served with a crispy bottom layer, and included decent amount of pork & shrimp. However, the latter was a bit greasy so we left stuffed. Dumpling portions were quite large at reasonable prices. Note the store is cash only, but provides an ATM at the entrance if you’re short on cash. Staff were sure to inform guests this was a no-cash / no-service establishment!
Homemade dumpling, good quality. Typical China town vibe, not super new and clean. Food serve fast. The dough slightly thicker than some of other place. The steam one is very juicy. The boiled one surprisingly good, too. This place is CASH only so please prepare.
We went in at 9pm on a Friday, got seated immediately. We chose this place as it was listed one of the top places to get dumplings in Chinatown on MTL blog, although our experience here did not match our expectations. The place is cash only, there’s an ATM machine right outside in case you don’t carry cash. We got the pork, shrimp and chives fried dumplings, the dumplings were a little burnt and they were bland as well. The server was pleasant, but the service took a long time.
The BEST dumplings ever in Montreal! The staff is so nice and kind there I always order their delicious pork dumplings, beef dumplings & lamb dumplings. their place is so beautiful I recommend to try their tea. I highly recommend Mai Xiang Yuan for dumplings here in Montreal! I always come back for more!!!!
A cute lil place of dumpling heaven!!! Drinks : Sapporo, Tsing Tao and soft drinks Appetizers: We tried 3 different salads and they were all so unique with great flavor. Cucumber, leek with peanuts, carrot and cabbage with egg. Food : They have an amazing selection of dumplings. 15 dumplings per plate and you can ask for half & half. We tried steamed lamb dumplings, pork with shrimp dumplings and beef curry dumplings. The beef curry was awesome and my personal favorite. The soy sauce mixed with the chilli oil is a great accompaniment for the dumplings. Service : Fast and friendly. Ambience : Not a fancy restaurant. A tiny hole in the wall. Pricing : Pretty reasonable. Cash only restaurant. Will I return? : A definite yes. Highly recommend this place.
Really yummy. Good service. Clean neat. They're not exactly "soup" dumpling. More like juicy only a little liquid inside dumplings
New address used to be next door as good as the last one. Only point tho, the porc crabs used to cost 12$ for 10 pieces. Now it’s like 8$ for 4 pieces AND they changed the recipe, not worth it any more, not very good. Used to be my favorites The rest is still as good
They only accept cash. The dumplings are delicious and you can see the cooks making it fresh through the glass windows to the kitchen. I highly recommend the boiled lamb dumplings and one order comes with 15 dumplings. This is my go to spot for dumplings!
Great Xiao long bao. We tried the pork and chive. The fried pork and cabbage dumplings were also good. Friendly staff, fairly priced. Only thing i disliked is that the tables are a little small and wobby, and theres not much room between tables.
Place was very dirty and the cleaning cloth left a stench and watery surface. They could be better to accommodate people, we were 3 and they had a table for 2 and some other spare chairs in the other tables, however they never tried to put that chair and sit us. They didn't either ask the customers after us two to sit. Food is good though but again the place is very dirty.
