Madinah Masjid

Madinah Masjid on Danforth Avenue: a really peaceful experience. The mosque is clean, well maintained, and has a very peaceful atmosphere for prayer. The space is organized and welcoming, and you can feel a strong sense of community there. It’s a great place to come for salah and take a moment away from the busy pace of the city.

I’ve been living in Canada for 5 years, and I never knew that one of Allah’s most beautiful houses was located right in downtown. I randomly parked my car, turned left, and suddenly came face to face with this incredible historical masterpiece.nnI made a dua and said, “InshaAllah there is parking here, and if there is, I will pray Isha in this mosque tonight.” When I noticed a parking area behind the building, I truly felt that Allah had invited me to His house and accepted me.nnAs soon as I stepped inside, I was shocked by the cleanliness of the washrooms and wudu areas. It was the perfect reflection of the saying “Cleanliness comes from faith.”nWhen I entered the prayer hall for Isha, an indescribable feeling filled my heart. A magnificent work of art its patterns and design reminded me of the mosques in Turkey. The green details of the chandeliers, the colors and calligraphy of the artwork, and the pure, peaceful atmosphere inside deeply moved me.nnI completed my Isha prayer in a full hour, and honestly, I didn’t even want it to end. The impact this mosque had on my body, soul, and emotions was something truly special. I could sit here for hours, silently observing and absorbing the peace.nnI hope everyone gets the chance to visit this place one day. An unforgettable experiencenI will definitely be back.nn

My friend and I had a very concerning experience at this masjid yesterday, Wednesday June 16 around 8:30 pm.nnA man, who appeared to work at the masjid, was in the sisters’ musalla and then entered the wudhu room while my friend was making wudhu, despite knowing she had gone inside. He did not knock or check whether the room was occupied before entering assuming he was there to clean.nnEven after seeing my friend in a vulnerable state—without her hijab and with parts of her awrah exposed—he proceeded to enter the room, take out the garbage, and then asked her if she was okay as he was leaving.nnWe have never felt this unsafe at a masjid before, and we believe this behaviour is completely inappropriate. Even if he was responsible for cleaning the washroom, why would he enter the sisters’ washroom without first ensuring that no one was inside? More importantly, after seeing that a sister was uncovered and alone, why would he continue cleaning in an enclosed space and then attempt to engage her in conversation?nnThis was an incredibly strange and uncomfortable situation, and it made us feel very unsafe. I do not know if anyone else has had a similar experience with this individual, but I wanted to share this so others are aware. May Allah protect us all. This masjid has been one of the oldest ones I’ve been coming to since I was a little kid. I volunteered back in 2020 for an iftar handout program and have been here many times in past years as well.nnThis Ramadan however, I came only once tonight and unfortunately had an unpleasant experience with the iftar. As soon as I sat down I noticed a little hair/eyelash in the pink roohafsa drink, there was also pink residue on the roti like someone had dipped their fingers in the drink and then used those same hands to place the roti down on the plate. These two factors immediately killed my appetite and I wanted to get up and leave however I needed to break my fast. Another thing I dislike is how there is one plate of salan/chicken qorma to be shared between two people. The prophet of course highlighted it is sunnah to eat from the same platter, however when there is liquid type foods involved this is unhygienic. There is nothing wrong with separating the same amount of salan in two plates so brothers can eat comfortably without feeling disgusted. I have no complaints about the masjid otherwise it is always good coming here and the people are great. But the staff especially ones handling iftar need to be more careful, seperate liquid dishes, and handle the food in a clean manner. It is part of our deen and I haven’t experienced this at any other masjid. Jazakallah Khair

Extremely poor hosted event. Me and my wife entered the mosque to fulfill our daily prayer. My wife was turned down to pray in the sisters section by volunteers because of an event being hosted. I spoke to management for reasons why and no one had any clue as to what was going on in the sister's section.nnA place of worship where someone is being turned down to pray should raise conver over an organised event. Remeber you will be questionable to Allah for this act.nnOrganise your event better. Very disappointed in management and the masjid itself. I grew up here for over 20 years and it's heartbreaking to witness such a thing.
