Integrity and skill were the qualities I had looked for as I interviewed lawyers to represent me in divorce. When Warren went over the items in his representation contract with me, I was struck by the way he said, "This means I'll *never* lie for you." I jumped out of my seat and shook his hand, saying, "Good! I'll never ask you to." Through lots of conferences and the lengthy trial, I discovered how deep the integrity of this man runs.
During the trial, a time came when we realized that, if I weren't present in the courtroom, Warren would be able to interrogate my spouse more effectively. The judge understood this and approved of the move. I was entirely comfortable leaving, based on what I'd seen of Warren's integrity. And for my own part on the witness stand, I was able to deliver spontaneous responses, since Warren had never told me in advance what questions he would be asking me. This is likely why the judge, in her findings, noted that my testimony was fully credible.
Warren's skill in trial was magnificent to watch. Every aspect of his performance in court was so far ahead of any movements I would've anticipate seeing. He came prepared each day and always had great recall of things I had told him even months earlier. And he was nimble on his feet -- never thrown by anything the other side presented. The results from the initial maintenance hearing and the divorce trial were as good as I could've hoped for. Then, when a re-up request for maintenance went to trial, Warren flat-out won that contest. The other side's request was denied because of how skillfully Warren had fought it.
One last bit of praise...Warren and his office were always reachable, professional, and caring thoughout all my dealings with them. Not every client getting representation for a divorce is gregarious and beyond sensitivity. Some, I'm sure, are quite melancholy and feeling rather beaten down when they walk into that office for the first time. I was. The compassion I experienced from them was as real as what I'd been getting from my dad and my closest friends. This was no small thing to me. I remember, when my trial ended, shaking Warren's hand and telling him that he'd been a friend to me when I'd needed one. True.
So it was easy for me to refer a treasured friend to him when she faced divorce. And now she and I have just referred another.
