This was our first time eating here... And it won't be our last! Quality: 5/5 Service: 5/5 Bang for buck: 5/5 This all-you-can eat sushi restaurant is a must try. Tons of selection, all quality ingredients. Something for everyone and everything was really tasty! The service was excellent. Management was attentive, friendly, and patient dealing with our party of 12, which included 4 kids. Had a great first experience. Definitely looking forward to coming back for more!
As always the value is unbeatable. The staff is amazing, shout out to James. The food is some of the best sushi I have had since leaving Vancouver Island. I highly recommend.
Lava Rock was really good! Interior had a great vibe! The sushi tasty and sashimi was to die for! The grill aspects was super fun too! Shoutout to James for being a great server!
A well-intentioned place that doesn't nail the details, so overall I can't recommend their all you can eat sushi. Best thing about it: no limit on sashimi. As the only AYCE place in Edmonton with this perk, I wish I could love it and make it my go to. Unfortunately, all the tuna was chewy and stringy where you'd expect buttery and soft. Same for the beef tataki: well seasoned, but thickly cut and full of gristle. You just end up with a tired jaw and an indigestible blob in your mouth. And that's only when the food came...45 minutes after ordering. It's completely unreasonable to mention a 2 hour dining limit when most of the first hour is spent waiting! It was hard to watch the one waiter scuttle around as the sole person serving everyone. I think he was trying to be polite, but was too put upon to be warm or attentive. There also seemed to be only one person in the kitchen preparing orders. I'll say the nigiri was good though, with a proper proportion of fish to rice. Again, the details: the rice was soft, but too warm. Their worst misstep however, was very watered down soy sauce! Soy sauce is too important a component to the sushi experience to mess with. No, we did not ask for a low sodium bottle. It was thin, and maybe half as salty as it should be. Despite some quality nigiri and salmon sashimi, everything tasted pretty bland as a result. Just for the "unlimited" sashimi although I can't imagine the wait, this is 2/5. I hope they figure things out, but I won't be back to find out any time soon.
Went here with a group of 4 couldn’t give more then 3 stars unfortunately. Returning is debatable for me Given the price > selection/value Pros: Unlimited grill ordering Great decor and atmosphere Decent sashimi & rolls to select from Didn’t notice a limit on sashimi Cons: -Automatic tipping 15% party of 4 -Arrived at 7pm last call was 8:15pm with a 9pm closing time -Deep frying oil needed to be changed the deep fried wings were dark and tasted like fish -Small grill for 4 people Suggestions if you go: Order more meat to start with and get there earlier to enjoy your allotted 2 hour time frame.
We love this place. Best all you can eat sushi place in Edmonton. They always nice to us and friendly no matter how they busy or not. If you compare it to big cities or near ocean places, definitely it’s not same as Vancouver, Toronto or ocean area. But it’s good enough just I wish all you can sushi places in city decreases their price…
Very very impressed with Lava Rock Sushi. All you can eat for 40 dollars and they truly mean it and the variety of food is amazing from the appetizers, to the various meats you can select for grilling and the sushi! Everything was delicious and definitely you got your moneys worth. We put orders in multiple times to make sure we wouldn’t order too much we couldn’t eat and they were very quick and accommodating with bringing our food out. Highly recommend the beef short ribs for grilling! And all the sushi rolls were excellent.
I want to give 3 stars but I can’t. Food was good and staff was very friendly but service was not good at all. Took 30-45 minutes for waiters to collect our order sheets each time and food took another 30-35 minutes to arrivehalf our order was the raw meat that you cook yourself. Was still hungry after our 2 hours because how little times we got to order. They REALLY need to increase staff because it was obvious they didn’t have enough waiters out. I’d love to try it again on a better day but my 1st time there was disappointing.
By far my favorite sushi spot. It's always so fresh. I order from this place a few times a month. Seriously recommend, don't pay attention to any bad reviews. I've never had a bad experience eating here.Food: 5/5
It was my first time trying all you can eat sushi. I ignored the negative reviews from here and wanted to give it a chance given the positive reviews. Unfortunately my experience was similar to those of lowest rating. The rolls didn't taste fresh, flaked, dry and disappointing tuna. We couldn't eat all, the Japanese bread was the only thing we liked. The concept is there, the place is ok but they gotta do something in respect to the quality of the sushi.
