La Rev

About

La Rev(olucion) is a unique Mexican cantina inspired by the history of the Mexican Revolution.

Story

A small, but big minded business, La Revolucion considers itself a space for creativity, making music and art, inspiration (given or taken) and general well-being. Of course the space wouldn't be able to sustain itself without offering something to its guests, and what we offer is an authentic taste of comida casera (Mexican home-made meals). We strive to be honest and fair in pricing, we also do our best to provide food that is found locally and grown organically.
Entering the cantina you will find our bright dining area adorned with reminders of Mexico and equipped with a stage and sound equipment. Also, we have big plans for our back room so stay tuned to find out whats coming!
So, whether its good food, entertainment, or just plain fun that you seek, maybe La Revolucion is the place for you!
Ps- If you´re searching for the right venue for your band, art, or party, contact us and let us know!

Food was good. I found the alcoholic drinks and beer well priced. I went on a Friday night and they had excellent live music from 7 to 10. Apparently live music is there a few times in the week.
Our experience was hit and miss. I’ll start with the good. The service was really good, the servers were all so nice and friendly. The place is clean. The corn and jalapeño poppers were really good and we would come back just for those. For mains we got enchiladas and fajitas. They weren’t bad but they weren’t our favourite either. The green sauce with fajitas was very small and everything was a little on the bland side. It didn’t feel worth the price point. The hot sauce helped. Enchiladas were also okay, not bad but not outstanding. The one strange thing was that the restaurant had a live band and the band came around while we were eating to tell us they had a surcharge pay as you wish but it was weird. I’ve never experienced this at any other restaurant with a live band. I’m also not a huge fan of live music so it was strange to pay for something you don’t particularly enjoy. Other than that, I would come back to try other items on the menu and can recommend the corn and jalapeño poppers, those were really good.
The food was excellent! Friendly staff, everyone was kind and welcoming. The band was also great. Had such a great time.
The food and ambience was lovely, and the cocktails were delicious! The house band was very pleasant and we enjoyed our experience for the most part. The only issue was that we had made a reservation, but the restaurant didn’t tell us they were also hosting a big private party that night, and our table was overrun and surrounded by guests from this party. We had to ask them several times to give us some space. We would have appreciated a heads up from restaurant staff that this was going to happen, or to have been seated somewhere else - our table was right in the thick of it. Our server also seemed to forget about us for long periods of time, so we were stuck there for longer than we wanted. All this to say we would overall be happy to go back, but now we know to make sure not to go on a night when they have a big group.
I took my wife on a date last night to hear our friends in music, Q&A. We arrived at about 6:15 and found there was limited seating at the bar. Note to self: arrive early when there is Saturday night entertainment. The food was excellent and the jalapeno poppers had my nose happily running for the rest of the evening. All dishes we were served or saw were beautifully presented and the young ladies who were handling service were delightful and very hard on the eyes. Hard to stop looking at, that is. Our one concern was that single folks were nursing beers and taking up the space of 4. Some were slumbering fitfully. Eating at the bar sucked with our backs to either our meal or the music. The only other issue I have is that La Rev's web calendar is blank, so we don't know what is happening in future to further entice us to visit again beyond the beautiful ladies, excellent food, entertainment and welcoming atmosphere. BTW, Dom Dunphy has dumped all over a number of businesses in a totally childish and mean-spirited way. When I invited her to dinner at La Rev at my expense so we could see if she might change her mind, she blew her Karen gasket. Pity she acts so hostile, fearful and nasty.
Best Mexican food I have had outside of Mexico! Food reminiscent of my time in Texas and Mexico. Super friendly staff. Went on a Friday for a birthday celebration..Live Gypsy jazz-jengo band- awesome. Can see that it is a local hang-out, people dancing to the music and just enjoying themselves. Definitely do again! Not stuffy or pretentious. Thank you for the experience...see you again!
I pass La Rev many times and finally decided to go in. So happy I did, my sister and I had an amazing dinner, fajitas and burrito. The food was authentic and you can tell from the taste that the owners care about their guest experience. We will definitely be back.
The food is great, especially for the price point. I've gone a few times on Monday evenings, when they have an awesome "margarita monday" deal with $7 margaritas! The servers are always so friendly. If you like a lot of flavour and spice, I recommend getting the chorizo as your filler - it's delicious!
Great spot for food, drinks, and live music. The atmosphere is pretty magical and the margaritas are great! Haven't had the food yet, but I will be back for sure.Service: 5/5
This has become my favourite restaurant in the entire city. I have not had a a better taco in this city, especially for the price. The lamb barbacoa is to die for, and I also love the chicken tinga. The salsa trio is $3, order them! If you can handle the spice you NEED to order them! I have become so addicted to the salsas sometimes I wonder if I have some sort of mineral deficiency that can only be quelled by morita chili oil. The green salsa is incredible, and the habanero is too. The quesadillas, fajitas, tacos dorados, jalapeños poppers are all great choices. The all day breakfast is also delicious. Calamari is uniquely flavoured, the tanginess cuts through the fried batter to lighten the dish. I no longer eat pork, but when I did I used to get the red pazole soup. It's the best pazole I've had outside of Mexico. It is one of the only pork dishes I truly miss eating. Chimichangas are hella salty but still tasty, great to order if you're planning on having a night of drinking. Great via UberEats, but I eat here so much that I try to go in person to reduce styrofoam waste. You don't have to donate to the live music if you don't want to. Tip the kitchen staff though, because they are working magic in that kitchen!
