We ordered four Chinese dishes, and they were not good at all. Very bland, wrong use of spices and sauces. The environment was great, but couldn’t enjoy my food because it just wasn’t good at all. Tasted like microwave Panda Express. Would not recommend for anyone that wants actual Asian cuisine.
I came to Koi with a group of 10 Latina women, and we received the most fantastic service and food. Everything was so fresh and cooked to perfection. The drinks were just beautiful and super tasty. Our group kept ordering drinks throughout our dinner, and they were always made perfectly and brought out quickly. I highly recommend Koi for large groups, corporate events, and celebrations. I would also highly recommend this place for people of color who want excellent service in a super welcoming environment. Vegetarian options: Amazing vegetarian options Kid-friendliness: We had one child with us, and they made him a fantastic lemonade and accommodated him greatly. Thank you, Koi staff!
We've come here several times after work for happy hour and we've never been disappointed. The happy hour food and drinks are not reduced size, but regular, very tasty items, and we've had most of them. During happy hour, we can eat and drink until we are satisfied without sticker shock. Good food, attentive staff, and nice environment, and you might even find parking on the street just steps away.
The food here is delicious! We came for a dim sum brunch, and we ordered way too much because there were too many tasty options! But no regrets - would do it again. Restaurant itself is clean, stylish, and the service was great. Can't wait to visit again!
Koi is a quaint dining experience in Downtown Evanston that attracts a crowd. The dim sum menu has something for everyone. The dining room is small yet expansive with each diner having the privacy of their own table while still being part of the crowd. In the summer the large front windows open up revealing the street sights and sounds and sometimes smells of the bustle of the big city. The fast friendly staff is attentive to detail, knowledgeable of the menu and leaves an excellent mark for the overall experience. My overall review is 5 out of 5 stars for ambience, service and overall quality of the food. Well that's all I have for now so until next time this is Robbie the Review Guy saying good eats and good seats!
Went to Koi last night for Valentine's Day with the family. Hadn't been there in quite some time. What I did remember from years ago was a rather intimate place with a beautiful mellow ambiance. But now its changed rather significantly. There were enough patrons at the restaurant last night. We were seated in the back hall which lacked any form of aesthetics. The lighting, the tables. It simply didn't feel catered to Valentine's Day much less any occasion. It was simply a room. The waitstaff was nice and they were on point for most of the evening. However, our food did take a long time; and when we did receive it, not all of us got it at the same time. As for the food, it was pretty good. We got an assortment of plates. Chicken wings to start. A few Chinese dishes and sushi rolls. Again, everything was good. But it wasn't great.
Every time I come here the ambiance is perfect and the food is exquisite. Decor aesthetic is relaxing and classy. Food feels the same. All the staff are super friendly. I wouldn’t change a thing. Love coming here with my kids and with my friends. Kid-friendliness: My picky kids eat all the stuff here. We usually stick to the appetizers though. Restaurant is casual enough for them to fit right in. They have coloring pages for them.
The food was all really tasty and I had a nice time with my family. Small complaint, the fortunes inside the fortune cookies were just advertisements for personal wipes targeted at men. Like they all said things like life's messes will be cleaned up soon. But then on the back it had the company name and the Amazon logo. I would definitely go back to this red restaurant again, but does my fortune cookie have to be used as advertisement space?
Very disappointing dining experience at a restaurant we have loved for years. Terrible, almost non-existent service, made for a very unpleasant dinner for 6 of us. Never asked to refill our drinks, couldn't get a glass of water for one that was missing, never checked to see if our food was OK, had to search for someone to even give us the bill. There did not appear to be any management on site. Koi has always been a go-to spot for us when family is visiting, but all six of us had to agree that we would - sadly - probably not return. Dining out is not just about the food, it's also about having a pleasant experience, which this was definitely not!
Very good Chinese and Asian options. Shrimp dumplings and wonton soup were delicious. I was just a little bummed that our main entrees - which still tasted great, we had the Mongolian Beef and Thai Chicken basil fried rice - came out a little cold. Especially since the kitchen took a long time in between courses.
