Story

Kingston MRI is a non-profit community MRI clinic licensed by the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care.

We have performed MRI scans on over 10,000 patients in the last year and over 75,000 patients since opening in 2003! Kingston MRI offers examinations that cover Neuroradiology, Body, Breast and Musculoskeletal imaging.

The clinic provide 80 hours per week of OHIP-insured MRI services. MRI services to non OHIP-insured patients (e.g., Workers Safety and Insurance Board, Canadian Armed Forces, funded research studies, etc.) are provided outside of the core hours.

All MRI services require referral from a physician licenced by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO). Kingston MRI is operated by Kingston Radiologists and has state-of-the-art technology with 2 MRI units.

Our goal is to provide patients with the highest quality of MRI service, increased access and decreased waiting times.

If I have an 11am appointment, I expect my MRI to begin before noon. Crazy incompetence on behalf of the staff.

Staff here either mislead me about their procedures or were flat-out incompetent. KIngston MRI failed to process my MRI in a timely manner, despite that they assured me FIVE TIMES the images would be available shortly after the MRI, and wasted over 7 hours of my and my doctor's time as a result. 4+ months after being referred, I had to travel from out of town to have my MRI which would be reviewed by a specialist in another appointment at Hotel Dieu. As I was travelling from out of town, I wanted to make a single trip for a weekend - MRI around 3pm on Friday and specialist about 930am Monday. I was told THREE TIMES over the phone when booking my appointment and TWICE at the appointment itself that the MRI would be available to the specialist electronically by the end of the day it was taken (Friday). However, at noon on Monday the images were still unavailable. My doctor called Kingston MRI and was able to rush the review of the MRI but was told the images wouldn't be available that day. It still took another 3 hours for the review to be faxed to her, so I spent 6 hours at the hospital waiting. At my follow-up 6 weeks later, the images still weren't available!!! My doctor again had to call to get them, and it took over an hour for them to be sent

was not pleased with the "bed-side" manners of the staff (or the particular person i dealt with). staff needs to be more sympathetic especially with people having procedures such as mri's. i was sedated and was extremely nervous as this was my first - and probably - last one. i felt more anxious after talking to the technician especially when i was told "you may not even fit in the machine" (yes, i am plus sized person which i had explained on the phone). there are nicer ways to say such things. please remember it may be your job, but we are still patients when in your care.
