The absolute best fried shrimp, scallops and catfish. Recommend this place to everyone and the service was friendly and very cool. Don't skip out on Lawrence's in Lombard!! They are definitely worth the stop.
EDIT: 4 months later, tried this place again to give it another chance. Tried the lightly breaded shrimp. The batter was hard and had an aftertaste that made it hard to eat. The onion rings were good, fries were ok. Disappointing as I really love popcorn shrimp. ---- Simple menu, can get by lb or half lb. No fountain drinks, just bottled. Comes with Lawrence cocktail sauce but no other condiments like ketchup or bbq sauce for the fries or onion rings. Had the half lb large shrimp. The flavor was OK and the batter was a bit too hard for my liking. Might try their catfish in the future.
It's good fried or broiled seafood. The atmosphere is dated. Pricing is fair and you do get a good portion size. Chicago's Best was here in the past. While there is much better sea food out there, it isnt nearby. This place is definitely better than Long Johns etc. Food was well cooked and we didnt wait very long. So once again, having been to many sea food places, this one is ok.
This place has always had really good fresh fish and now they've recently remodeled. The new look Johnson's is a nice improvement. The fish sandwich is probably one of the best deals in town, I highly recommend it.
I stopped in heading elsewhere and it happened to be 7 mins before closing time. They said that I could still order so I asked what would be easiest for them. The gentleman suggested shrimp so got that with fries. Decent sized shrimp, a little thick on the breading for my presence but not a bad meal. Kudos for being willing to accommodate at closing time!
Best shrimp you will EVER taste! Delicious breading, cooked perfectly for a crispy coating that keeps the shrimp moist and tasty.
I've always liked this place but it just got better so I had to write a review. The young lady at the front was extremely personable and made made fiancee laugh from the start of the order to the end of the order. The place is super clean and for a seafood restaurant, it doesn't smell like seafood at all!!! And you can tell why when you get your food. The seafood is extremely fresh and cooked to perfection. I highly recommend this hole-in-the-wall place if you're looking for good seafood in the Lombard area.
Waited 1hr 5mins for my carry out order. Get home and everything is cold, we're missing a side, and one side has been switched at random. Should have asked for money back and went to Popeyes. Attaching some pics to show how generous the 1/4 lb plates and 1/2 lb dinner was. Never again Johnson's.
I chose this restaurant based on the reviews. Unfortunately, the food was terrible. I didn't like anything. The coleslaw, jumbo Gulf shrimp, breading, the twice baked potatoes....it was all terrible to me. And the fact that this place had a higher rating than Pappadeaux....unbelievable!!! My friend had the catfish and I didn't like that either. My friend like his food though which is why I gave it 2 stars.
Stopped by yesterday. I had not visited since pre-Covid and when Lawrence seafood had just taken over from Johnson‘s Dour county. Dining room tables were significantly cut 50%. Staff was very rude. I arrived approximately 7:20 pm. Thought I could eat a portion of my order in the dining room and told once I received my food that the dining room was closed. And the people that were in the dining room we’re just “wrapping things up”. I assume they were regulars and I was not. It was unfortunate because the heat of the day. I ordered shrimp with light breading and it was over cooked. It was like eating a tough piece of steak. The cold items seafood sauce, and coleslaw were packed in the same bag with the shrimp. Why wouldn’t they be in separate bags. For hot and cold? I would recommend a little patience from the staff. I understand you might be asked the same questions over and over but it’s the first time I’m asking them
