John 3:16 has always been my favourite from the time I lived in Richmond. Real authentic Malaysian food which suits my palette of South Asian taste. Broadway restaurant is located veey close to No. 9 bus stop and a decent neighbourhood with nice ambiance. I felt more spacious and friendly here. Taste 8/10. Nice cozy music and prices are extremely affordable, compared to the Banana Leaf.
I went John 316 MD on Broadway for the first time this week. It was so good. If I could give 6 stars , I wouldn’t hesitate. I had ‘roti’ bread with curry dipping sauce as an appetizer. That is the coolest starter I’ve had in a long time. It’s like a fresh croissant but with more flavor and texture, and the dipping sauce is amazing. For main, we had pork ribs, chicken skewers satay and beef curry with rice. So good! We also had a huge portion of green bean’s with Malaysian garlic sauce that was perfect and totally original. The pork ribs were perfectly cooked and flavored , I can still taste them. The restaurant is very authentic . When the staff found out it was my first time, they were genuinely excited for me to try the food. Excellent staff , great food. I will go again often.
Hands down the best roti place that I have ever tried. The chicken and beef skewers were also one of the best since it was really juicy, however it is on the thicker side. Felt like the green bean sauce was way to strong and overpowered the dish. The rest of the dishes tasted average.
Food was spectacular! Atmosphere was great and the service was 10/10. Our cups were never empty and empty plates were taken right away. Roti Canai: 10/10, super flaky and delicious Beef Satay: 10/10 beef was tender and flavourful. Definitely would recommend eating it with the onion as it really enhances the flavour. Nasi Lemak: 9/10. The coconut rice was really good. The chicken flavourful Hainanese Chicken: 9/10. A different take on a traditional dish, the garlic was a great touch. The rice was very flavourful and the soup that came with it was light and refreshing. Char Bee Hoon: 8/10. The tangyiness was different, but after a few bites I grew accustomed to it and thought it really brought the dish together.
I've been here a couple of times now and each time, they never fail to impress. I've only been for lunch so far, but the portions are generous and the flavours are explosive. My favourite is their laksa and my friends really enjoyed the Mee goreng and hainanese chicken. The service is always really great. Staff are very friendly and attentive. Great place to come for lunch! Will be back to try their other dishes!
The food and service was pretty good. The restaurant was spacious and sits comfortable. We had the non tradition hoi Nam chicken. It was roasted instead of the regular blanch. The roti and curry Brisket was good, wish there were more pcs of brisket and without the big potatoes.. We also had the chicken satay, it was tender and juicy. The mixed.meat rice noodle was tasty too, except there were too much sauce and the noodle was swimming in it.
Tried this location a week after the Richmond location. I ordered the same dishes = Beef Rangdang and Beef Satay. Portions were still large : I found that both dishes are less sweeter than the Richmond location so you can really taste the flavours. The beef is delicious! I personally prefer it less sweet just like this location. We also had their famous hainanese chicken chicken and it didn’t disappoint so you must try it. The dinning experience itself was great and much bigger than the Richmond location. We went there are around 7:30 p.m on a Thursday evening and it was not too busy. There’s a couple of parking spots at the back entrance in the back!
We love Malaysian food. Used to go to B…..L… but once we discovered John 3:16 this became the preferred place for our consistently well prepared and presented Malaysian favourites - especially for take out. Have never experienced dine in so cannot comment on table service or ambience. Good sized portions at reasonable prices. The rendang beef is melt in your mouth deliciousness. Perfectly puffed roti. Flavours and colours are outstanding. Try it and see for yourself. Order lots…there’ll be no leftovers.
The Beef Rendang was tender, tasty, and not skimpy in portion. The Assam Curry Mixed Veg eggplant, okra, fried tofu was good but too sweet. We asked for chili peppers which helped. The Roti Canai was on the sweeter side but the dipping sauce was very tasty. Came with potatoes on the side. The Tamarind Fish Curry with okra had a delicious tangy sour curry. This curry was my favorite; however, the fish was very battered and fried to oblivion so quite bland. It took awhile for the rice to come and we asked for it 3 times. Good but not in a hurry to return.
Unfortunately Google does not have half star option but I will say it is 3.5 stars. Would have been four stars if not for some misses with a few items we ordered. It is not often I see prawn soup noodle here and I say it is pretty well done. I totally agree with one of the reviewer. There is not enough soup for the amount of noodles. Love the satay even if it went cold. The taste and charred texture on the outside reminds me of Indonesian ayam bakar. A friend who missed Ipoh hor fun liked the dish. I like that they added green chilli on the side that I am used to having with this dish. Teh Tarik was good too. Tasted better than another place that I know of. Unfortunately, some of the main dish was a miss. Starting from sambal stir fry mixed vegetables. It tasted decent but the sambal, which I was looking forward to, was quite disappointing. Though I can taste shrimp but there is no kick in spiciness at all. Just too sweet in my opinion. I was craving for good sambal belachan but I am not getting it. For lor bak, we think the five spice seasoning came in too strong, the filling felt too simple I thought they should at least have prawns and water chestnuts mixed in. Curry puff didn’t taste hand made. Too bad. Despite some of the misses, I still think it is worth another visit to try something else to see how it fare
