We stopped for dinner and got a table for 4 on the patio upstairs. The views and atmosphere were great. Maybe a bit on the noisy side but it still had a good vibe. Each of us ordered something different for main and dessert and every single dish was delicious. I always thought of Joeys as more of a standard chain so I didn’t expect much. But I was definitely wrong. This ended up being one of the best meals w’ve had in a while in Vancouver. We will certainly go back!
In an epoch wherein dining experiences oft oscillate between mediocrity and mere functionality, my recent culinary encounter was rendered singularly remarkable — owing in no small part to the consummate professionalism and preternatural attentiveness of one Caitlin W., whose service may aptly be described as a masterclass in hospitality excellence.nnFrom the moment of our ingress, Caitlin’s demeanor exuded a composure both poised and perceptibly intuitive — anticipating our unspoken needs with the sort of dexterity more commonly attributed to mind readers than servers. Her cadence of speech, precise yet warm, was matched only by her meticulous attentiveness to the sequencing of our courses, ensuring a gastronomic progression both harmonious and unhurried.nnThe victuals, to their immense credit, bore the hallmarks of a kitchen not merely competent, but inspired — and yet, it was Caitlin’s deft orchestration of our entire experience that elevated the meal from satisfactory to sublime. One scarcely finds such synchrony of grace, efficiency, and unfeigned sincerity in the realm of customer service.nnIn sum: were one to compile a taxonomy of elite hospitality practitioners, Caitlin W. would not merely deserve inclusion — she would demand it.
From when you entered and throughout our visit the service was excellent. You get a complimentary glass of bubbly and we asked for a table with a view over the waterfront. which we got. Restaurant filled up quickly for lunch. Service never failed. Paige, our server, took care taking pictures of my friend and I, who have not seen each other for 33 years. It was difficult adjusting the lighting on my camera and she used her own and sent us the pics. The food was excellent. We shared the chicken katsu salad and the wild roasted cod. These were not ordinary dishes at all. She asked if we wanted each course separated to share. It was well done, beautifully decorated for two portions of each. Great choice of wine for me too, where I got to taste before ordering. Would come back for sure, maybe when I come by Vancouver again to catch up with my school friend from years ago.
We had dinner here on March 31. There were a lot of customers for Monday night. They offer a glass of champagne for free while you wait. I can't drink, but I thought that was nice. I like the interior, and everything was clean throughout the restaurant. I ordered seared salmon sushi CA$20.5 which was really good. I mean you can't go wrong with umami sauce. My partner had a piece. He liked it so much he ordered another one after finishing his food. Our server was really friendly. It was a little hard to get her attention though. Probably because this restaurant is big. Overall we had a great experience here.
The atmosphere at JOEY was very pleasant and welcoming. The staff were professional and friendly. While we were waiting for our table, they offered us a refreshing sparkling welcome drink, which was a really nice touch.nnSince we waited for a few minutes near the kitchen staff, I had the chance to observe their work closely — they were doing their job with great care and professionalism, which was impressive.nnThe food was very flavorful and high quality, but unfortunately, all three of our dishes were served cold, which took away from the overall enjoyment. Also, the prices were a bit on the higher side compared to similar restaurants.nnOne thing I noticed was that some staff were using gloves but continued touching different surfaces and even the food with the same pair of gloves. From a hygiene perspective, it would be better if gloves were changed more frequently or if clean hands were used instead. On the other hand, some staff worked without gloves but clearly paid more attention to cleanliness, which was appreciated.nnOverall, I was satisfied with my experience. These kinds of issues can happen in other restaurants too, sometimes even more frequently. With a few small improvements, JOEY could offer an even better dining experience. Thanks to the team for their warm hospitality.
