Excellent breakfast place. Eggs Benny and traditional breakfast are awesome. Definitely recommend the traditional breakfast with chorizo sausage and extra bacon, you can’t go wrong and won’t be sorry! This is a very popular place, so may have to wait for a table, particularly on weekends, but it’s worth the wait. Servers are super friendly and fast. I’d definitely recommend this place, and even to take friends or folks from out of town. I’ll be back for sure!
Overall the experience was good, but unfortunately there were too many people and we could only sit outside. However, the waiters are very professional and friendly, neither too much nor too little. I don't like black coffee, but I didn't expect that the black coffee here would not make me feel very bitter, and the food is very good. Foods I highly recommend the burgers and fries, this restaurant I think I will come back next time.
The Basic is anything but... Dropped by for breakfast last month and tried their corned beef hash and Belgian waffle combo. It gets busy during brunch time and these dishes will put you back about $20 each. Food is filling tho and I thought they turned out pretty good definitely liked the crisp potatoes in the hash.
What you would expect: mouthwatering diner style food for your necessary morning hungover munchies. Supplies with a great dose of friendly service and you're up and running in heartbeat. Place could use some redesign, but will still go back for starting my weekend.
It's a great place for all-day breakfast. The bennies and hollandaise tasted great, and they can do varying degrees of poached eggs. The service is awesome. The server had good insight and was very thoughtful. The menu is largely breakfast offerings, but there are sandwiches and some burgers as well.Food: 5/5
Busy Sunday 1100 am. Waited outside 10 Celsius. Did not want to eat curbside, but table for two came up quickly. Front service was attentative and kitchen put out orders fast. Good vegetarian omlette. I helped my wife finish the fresh fruit from her plate.Food: 5/5
Blueberry pancakes…the blueberry pancakes. Absolutely delicious when they nice and warm and drizzled in maple syrup. Corned beef hash was worth every bite especially with the mushroom add on. The Brit was worth enough to take the leftovers home and consume for a late afternoon tea. The staff was great, and you definitely know they were smiling ear to ear under their masks. Definitely a 20% tip.
Update 2023: The Basic will ALWAYS have my heart! Great options and that cosy feeling of homemade food. Prices are also great, only bad thing is that they close REALLY early, gotta run! Very good option for breakfast/lunch/snack/dinner. Very good price and great customer service!
One of the best spots in town to have a classic breakfast meal. The staff are always welcoming and so kind! The owner Brendan, has an even bigger heart of gold. When he found out that I was collecting donations for the hospital staff at Vancouver General Hospital, he generously donated 10 gift cards which I was able to hand out in a raffle. The smiles on the faces of the nurses, doctors, and careaids who won literally went from east to west. We tend to forget how much we are appreciated by our community, especially when we have been so burnt out from working understaffed. Brendan and his restaurant helped remind us why it's so important to take care of eachother. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!!
Stopped in for an Easter breakfast, 2 adults + 2 kids. Portions are large, well presented with lots of fresh fruit. Blueberry pancakes, Belgian waffle combos, and 'The Mess', which is a loaded hash with your choice of eggs. Also had fries, which were very nicely done. Everyone enjoyed the food and coffee/tea, OJ. Service was prompt and courteous. Food came quickly although we were seated in a 15 min lull before things filled up again. $110 total + tip. Only thing slightly negative I would say is I found the flavours a bit muted, maybe a bit under-seasoned, for 'The Mess' anyway. Would certainly return and/or stop for a breakfast at some point during the week. Kid-friendliness: No problem with kids. They had booster seats, etc.
