Reviews
I’ve ordered from Izumo a few times to try it out before doing a full review. When I first went here they were still open for dine in and I loved how intimate the dining area was. Though it’s quite small, it’s not often busy. Since Covid they started doing takeout only. They also *usually* give a discount when you pay with cash like most sushi places. Lately they’re doing a 20% discount on cash payments. They are a family owned business and have very kind customer service. If you’re ordering in a large group and getting one of the party trays, you’ll be paying a bit less than other sushi places in the area, however the size of their maki rolls are smaller than most places. The quality can be hit or miss, I have gone sometimes and found the fish didn’t smell as fresh or that some pieces were a bit dry unfortunately. That being said, my most recent experience with them was positive; our order was ready on time, we got a 20% discount for paying with cash, and they packed a small container of soy sauce for each of us - we all like different levels of wasabi in our soy sauce, so this was lovely. Most of our sushi pieces tasted fresh and the maki rolls all had a unique flavour to them, which was nice. Sushi is one of my favourite foods, I eat it at least once a week. In Kingston, I have three favourite sushi places that are hard to beat in terms of quality and taste. Therefore I don’t think I’ll be back here anytime soon for sushi. Instead I’ll return when they open indoor dining and try out their noodle dishes. Parking: Izumo is located in downtown Kingston, there is street parking available in front of the restaurant but it’s often taken.
This was quite disappointing. All of these rolls but none of them had much, if any flavour. Almost couldn’t differentiate one roll from another. To boot we only received one tiny container of soy sauce for all of this sushi and after tax, tip and delivery it cost over $90! Unfortunately, won’t be ordering again.
We ordered for the first time since moving to Kingston. Over the phone they were very pleasant. Picked up order only to find out when we got home that a roll was missing. When called they said we would have to drive all the way back downtown to get it or get a refund in person only. Therefore one child didn’t get their dinner order. At first glance the rolls looked well made except for the avocado which was old and very brown and spotted even before opening the clear lid. Was not worth the $71 we spent.
Update: my second order was beyond disappointing : unfortunately the fish was not even slightly fresh. the smell hit my nose as soon as i opened the container and i could barely get through one piece! so upset, i thought i had found my new sushi spot! I am so impressed! this is my first time ordering snd i’m kicking myself for not going sooner!! this was an amazing deal for amazing sushi. the fish was fresh. delicious. i couldn’t recommend them more! there is a lot of good sushi in this town but this is unbelievable! I cant get over how much fresh fish i got for so little!! $41 before delivery and tax $6 i ordered; sashimi tempura bento box first picture tako sashimi salmon sushi and a salmon roll
Excellent food with great service! The prices are fair and the setting is a small, yet well decorated japanese-style restaurant with a quality music choice. We ordered the small sushi box and we were very satisfied with the quality of the sushi and sashimi.
The food here is way too expensive for the quantity and quality given. I got a bibimnaengmyun $14 with a red dragon roll $13 and my friend got a sashimi bento box $20. First, the naengmyun had garnishes that were less that satisfactory. One piece of dry beef, three small chunks of radish, some cucumbers, and the sauce tasted stale. The noodles were stuck together and hard to mix with the sauce. The red dragon roll was small as small as a normal california roll and the filling was worse than a 6 dollar california roll from other restuarants. Finally, the sashimi bento box used old fish, the tempura was cooked with old oil, and the gyoza was stale as well. There was very poor customer service as well. Also, the workers were on their phones the entire time, calling people on speaker phone. There are so many other amazing sushi places in Kingston. Don't waste your time, money, and taste buds on this one. I'd checkout sushibar da instead.
This place is AWESOME! The food is a good size and the decor is amazing :D i asked for the tempura udon and they brought out this tiny plate of tempura and a tiny bowl of noodles and i was thinking is this it? But then they brought out the BIG BOWL that was actually the rest of my food lol! A very good and tasty surprize! 5/5 will visit again!!
Decided to try out the hand rolls and sashimi sample platter. Normally I love sashimi but this did not smell edible, it tasted old and I had to contact skip to get a refund so I could eat dinner. The hand roll was mainly rice with very little salmon or any other toppings. All in all not a good experience.
We had bulgogi dinner. The food was fine, but the price does not match the quality and the quantity of the food total came to 20 cad per person with tax and tips. The food portions were really small, and we have to get something else to eat after since none of us were full. There are way better sushi/Korean places in downtown having better food and prices. Very disappointing experience and will not come again.
Great place for sushi. I was sad at first to see my favorite rolls were a bit pricey so I ended up ordering one of their combos instead. It was wonderful, from the quality to the quantity to the decor as well. It even came with miso soup! The place is really small but the music and wall decorations are nice. Definitely recommend. Oh yeah, staff were very friendly as well!
