Drive past this place today and turned around to give it a try. I was not disappointed. The order was quick and the service was very friendly. I ordered the curry goat boneless with rice and peas and potato. Everything was flavourful without being too overpowering. Rice was moist and flavourful. Will definitely go back to try their other dishes. No seats, takeout only hence the express.
How I've missed Island Foods since they closed their mainstay location at King and Dufferin. I was so delighted to discover this recently-opened takeout location near to my place of business. It offers the exact versions of all of the dishes I grew so fond of at their previous location. This establishment is impeccably clean and professional and the gentleman who serves me every time I've been in is proficient and I've never had a mistake in my order, over 10 now. Thank you Island Foods Express, you're doing all of the right things..
Was in the plaza picking up something else & saw this place and got excited as I haven't had Caribbean cuisine in quite some time. Noticed that their oxtail dinner is way cheaper than other places so placed an order for it. Got my dinner pretty quickly one person finished picking up food as I arrived. Had it at home and it tasted good but sadly, the 3 large pieces of oxtail was mostly fat and what wasn't was dried out and not fall apart tender as I would expect with oxtail. Hopefully they can improve this. The other thing I noticed is that their jerk chicken is white meat only no thanks!.
A small take-out counter of Caribbean Trinidadian cuisine, quick service at the counter or pickup for online ordering, tasty West Indies favours, boneless chicken curry roti was nicely spiced and flavoured, the Doubles had a nice pastry loaded with lots of Channa chickpeas. Nice & clean environment.
I tried Island Foods for the first time this week and I became hooked and returned 4 days in a row. I've had the goat and chicken roti and the beef and oxtail dinners. Everything is great, the goat was so tender and flavorful with huge pieces. I added vegetables or channa to the chicken roti, a nice touch. Their hot sauce is great too, tons of flavour.
If I could give more stars, I would! Ordered deconstructed chicken curry with roti and also ordered doubles. Honestly, the food was outstanding! The curry chicken was so flavourful and quite a big portion, and the doubles just took me back to my youth. There was a doubles place at Yonge and Dundas which I used to go to, and today’s doubles reminded me of that place. Not overly oily, and the chana had a nice flavour as well, and of course the tamarind sauce takes it over the top. It was reasonably priced as well. I called the place to let them know of my utmost joy. We tend to call to complain, rather than praise. I thoroughly enjoyed it and I HIGHLY recommend!!
I have dined at Island Foods Express in Markham multiple times and have always been impressed with the quality of the food. The curry and jerk chicken are particularly delicious and always cooked to perfection. The prices are competitive, and the portions are generous. This restaurant has quickly become one of my regular go-to spots. The service is also very quick, and if you're in a hurry, you can call ahead, and they'll have your meal ready for you. Keep in mind that this is a counter service restaurant, so there is no seating available for in-restaurant dining. All in all, I highly recommend Island Foods Express for anyone looking for delicious Caribbean cuisine at a great value.
I have never been here before. We ordered a ton of different food from the menu to try. Their jerk chicken and curry goat was to die for. Their Jamaican patty is so crispy and yummy. The veggies that comes with the rice is a perfect match I have nothing bad to say, we definitely will return. Highly recommend...extremely yummy.
Island Foods is legendary for the best Caribbean food in Toronto. I’ve been eating it for the last 30 years and by far my favorite! Thrilled they have a Markham location now. Family owned business along with family recipes that haven’t changed in 30+ years don’t mess with perfection. Had jerk chicken, jerk shrimp, doubles and roti’s tonight and it reminded me of what I’ve been missing for the last couple of years before they opened this new location. Always top quality food, amazing service and friendly group. Looking forward to many returns now they have this location uptown!
I love this place! The people are so sweet and the food is so good! My husband and I have been to Jamaica before and we absolutely loved it and this place is where we go when we need a tasty Jamaican food fix. It never disappoints! Another thing I noticed is how careful the employees are to make sure you get ustensils, napkins etc lot of takeout places aren't doing this anymore, I'd imagine, due to rising costs, and the lady who packed our order last time wrote "bless" on some of the packages which made it extra spécial thank u for blessing us, whoever you are! It's so nice when you get a nice meal made with extra love like that. 10/10 recommend!
