We had a great visit at the Indian Lodge Motel. The manager Debbie had us checked in quickly and then spent a couple of minutes telling us about Joseph and the sights in the area. The grounds around the motel are nice and well maintained. There are tables and chairs out on the lawn. Our room was modern, clean and comfortable. The restaurants, bars and shopping are all within walking distance. Joseph is a beautiful town with a lot of flowers and sculptures. We wish we could have spent more time there. We would definitely stay at the Indian Lodge Motel again.

This is a nice little family-owned motel in Joseph, Oregon. It is located on the south end of Main street, within easy walking distance of Joseph's numerous restaurants, shops and art galleries. The rooms are clean and well maintained, and the building, as a whole, is constantly being updated. The room my wife and I stayed in most recently had newer carpet, had recently been repainted, and had a brand new tub/shower insert as well as new fixtures and a new vanity. The room offers a small but reasonable TV with Dish network, a coffee maker and decent coffee, and a small refrigerator, all of which we took full advantage of. The staff here is very friendly and helpful. My wife and I like this place a lot. The only thing that is preventing me from giving it a full five stars is the bed. The mattress on king-sized bed in our room was quite hard. It didn't bother me too much, but I wouldn't have been unhappy with something slightly softer. My wife, however, found it to be very uncomfortable, and had a difficult time getting to sleep or staying asleep both nights we were there. Also, although you might guess the structure is built on a slab, it is in fact built on a traditional foundation with crawl space. The structure is old, and the floor in the main bedroom portion of our room was quite squeaky. I actually found that to be kind of charming, but I certainly wouldn't be surprised to find I'm in the minority on that. Will we stay here again? Absolutely. I should also note that The Indian Lodge Hotel may hold some historical interest for fans of old Western movies. The hotel was originally built and owned by the famous hollywood character actor, Walter Brennan, who owned a 10- or 12,000 acre ranch (opinions seem to vary on the size) near Joseph beginning in the early 1940's. Brennan also built the town's movie theater (a Quonset hut structure on Main street near the center of town which has since become a baptist church).

The room was clean, the beds were soft, the bathroom was just right, and the heating kept things nice and toasty. The only downsides are a bit of a lack of lights and the walls are a bit thin. I still slept like a baby though.

BEWARE! We booked one of the beautiful cottages. When we booked it, the owner of the establishment, said he was not able to give us any confirmation in writing. When we arrived the un-compassionate desk clerk said that we were not booked into one of the cottages and said that the owner had booked us into the shabby motel instead. She showed us the room. It was dark, dingy, and on a very busy, noisy Main Street. She said there was nothing she could do about it. She offered a discount. Laughable!. We asked for 20 minutes to discuss it by ourselves. When we came back she said the owner said if we didn't want the room to send us on our way! Unmitigated gall! Now for the backstory: this booking was for the Fourth of July weekend. As we were booking the cottage, spoke to the owner by telephone three times, each time asking your for written confirmation. They refused to provide any written confirmation, even though when we arrived at their office they clearly had a fax machine. They said they did everything on paper. Even when we demanded a confirmation of our cancellation from the desk clerk, as they were kicking us to the curb, they refused to provide a written cancellation, putting our credit card information completely at risk! When we demanded a receipt she became indignant. It took us literally five minutes to convince her to give us a written cancellation so that we had proof, in the event unauthorized charges may have appeared on our credit card statement. They literally ruined our vacation! And didn't care! So, beware!

This place is pretty nice. Nice service and food. The only thing wrong was at night it was noisey and it was hard to sleep. Other wise it was nice!
