India Cafe is a family owned restaurant and Indian grocery located in Ottawa's vibrant Byward Market. Since 2005, we have been serving visitors of Ottawa and the Byward Market with fine Indian food. Located in the core of downtown Ottawa, you are steps away from many national landmarks such as the Parliament of Canada, The National Gallery of Canada and The Royal Canadian Mint. Come join our diverse range of visitors (from locals to tourists from all around the world!) We are open 7 days a week offering our customers fine Indian food we also offer Indian takeout and delivery.

Our menu offers a wide range of curries of East Indian origin. Our professional chef specialises in various Indian dishes such as delicious Korma, butter chicken, savoury Bhunas, various vegetarian dishes and tandoori dishes that are cooked to perfection in the Tandoor (clay oven). You can also enjoy our crisp, flavorful samosas or the very popular Chicken Tikka Wrap. Our open concept front lets you watch as your wraps are prepared. We also have a broad collection of Indian ingredients (and advice!) for those interested in recreating their own Indian dishes.

It’s an okay place, I feel like theirs much better places in the city for Indian. I haven’t been here in years and I can remember why. Nothing really memorable about the food, the place or service. If you want Indian I’d say try else where sorry say.
The food was overpriced and it tasted very average. It tasted like something you could make at home with the jar of premade curries. The old man present was rude and we did not feel wanted there. There was no background music and at one point we were alone and it felt awkward to even speak since it was so quiet. I had a butter chicken and my friend had a briani. They were both a huge let down. Don’t waste your money there.
Horrible I would say… Don't go to this place. The horrible Biriyani we had. No raita or pickle served. When we asked for more Tandoori chicken the older gentleman said he had only 4 pieces… The worst ever biriyani I had. He was so rude as if he did not want to serve us..
Quaint home-style mom-and-pop Indian restaurant in the Byward market. Authentic Indian street food. Simple eatery, very reasonably priced. Generous portions. Options range from a plated serving, or wraps. Felt like we were guests dining in their home. The hosts were very kind. The shop also sells Indian spices to take home, and even tubes of mehndi henna!
Nice small restaurant run by a nice gentleman and his family. If you are on a budget then definitely give it a go. Beef samosas are popular among its patrons. I opted for an onion bhaji and found it great. Curries have home made touch and naans are fluffy. Halal options are available I didn't try meat curries though. The hours are amazing. You can also find this place open on Mondays when other Desi places are closed. Great on days when it is bright outside as this place has large windows to do people watching.
The very best butter chicken I've ever had! It is bursting with flavor yet still very mild as far as hot spices go. Huge portions for very fair price. The owners are the staff and are so lovely and customer service oriented! We come here every year on our trip to Ottawa. Definitely recommend!
I had a wonderful experience at this simple place. Great taste, plenty of food in the plate and reasonable pricing. I recommend.
Worst service. Racial. We went there to order food. He denied saying restaurant capacity is just 6 people and ask us to wait outside. When we were waiting 2 local people entered and I saw from the window he offered them table for dine-in. Not hygienic as well. There are some good restaurants within 1 km. I’ll edit this and add name of restaurants you should visit.
The food was enjoyed on the Patio and the chicken biryani was delicious! I eat Indian food quite regularly and am always in search of delicious Indian food. This was one of my favourite biryani dishes to date. Both my husband and I thoroughly enjoyed the food!
Cozy, home-cooked Indian food right here in Ottawa. I had the healthy mix vegetable curry and soft saag panner plate with an additional potato spiced samosa on the side with tamarind sauce. Great value and kind people working here at the India cafe. Would recommend this place to all!
