Howard Johnson Express Inn - Amherst Hadley

EDIT: I have to lower my rating, because of the condition of the property. Over several days, it became clear that the upkeep is fairly superficial. It helps things look better, but the hotel really needs some investment and deeper renovation. The plumbing was an issue in multiple rooms (including toilets that only sometimes flush or won't stop running), and the hot water runs out quickly (maybe that explains the lack of tub stoppers?). Adding fridges and microwaves to rooms is great, but the lack of electrical outlets is an issue, especially near the beds. Staff really are great, but the property needs a deeper overhaul. // Staff and management here are really excellent. They take guest satisfaction seriously and specifically. Rooms are clean and well maintained. They vary in how recently they've been updated; I got the impression that they are gradually renovating them all. The hotel also wins extra points for pet-friendliness.

My family and I stayed last night. The room was fine, clean; bed was comfortable. One significant negative however, was that, even though our check-out was not until noon, the maid service knocked on our door three times before 10:30 wanting to clean our room. Felt VERY rushed. Somewhat disappointing also was that the continental breakfast, very basic and simple, was completely shut down by 10 a.m. despite the later check-out time. Seems like it could easily be left open a little later. There was nothing easily visible in our room stating that breakfast would be done and cleaned up by 10.

Great location, friendly and helpful staff, clean rooms with really high ceilings. Would recommend!

Outdated decor. But clean and comfy. And they slow dogs so that's a plus.

Well appointed rooms, refrigerator and microwave, multiple HBO channels, good customer service. Jasmine was wonderful at check-in time.
