We tried Kaiseki experience tonight and the experience is great. Service is excellent. The server explained all dishes in detail and vibe is good. Quality of food is nice with the price charged. The only little down side is the tempura dish is not crispy enough. Presentation and meat use is at good quality.
Location is by the water, a little bit hard to find, very good service. Cozy restaurant. Lots of varieties . We loved everything we ordered. The ingredients are fresh. The fried chicken is nice, very juice inside.
We had an unforgettable night on Xmas day! I heard this restaurant from my friend. Also I found this restaurant information from Instagram, the presentation looks so nice ! So I chose this restaurant to enjoy with my gf on Xmas day. Appetizer - I love their Uni shooter! The umami and tosazu Japanese vinegar with all ingredients like a bomb in my mouth! Good starter! Sushi is very fresh and good size, I love the Chutoro, my gf likes Botan Ebi and Hotate. Main course * the Miyazaki Wagyu is melting in my mouth!!!! Sea snail is their signature items and limited, the server said they just get the Sea snail back! $168 each I think it’s worthy. We both feel so full and enjoy all the dishes! They have a small gift for us for Xmas! Service is excellent! We will come back for sure!
This restaurant has a beautiful view, so it's best to go when it's not raining or snowing. I get to enjoy the beautiful night view and some really good Japanese food. Their service was great. The sashimi are very fresh. I got the Aburi set. Everything were made with love. The sukiyaki hot pot was amazing for ONLY $25. Such a Good Deal Highly recommended. It's recommended to come in on a nice warmy day, before sunset and sit in the patio. You will then enjoy the gorgeous view of Granville Bridge. Do not order the snail with shell it's a rip-off.
I REALLY didn't want to give any restaurant a one star but this time I just HAD TO... DO NOT trust social media pictures of this place, they are there for the pics not for the taste. I got the Kaiseki and almost every single course missed the mark tonight and it totally ruined Xmas eve dinner for me. Start with the sushi, they couldn't even get the basic right, by which I meant the sushi rice. The rice was mushy, either overcooked or they just used bad rice. The rice base was dense, soggy and all stucked together. This alone ruined the Nigiri for me. Not to mention they didn't put the wasabi on the sushi but they put it on the side... I had to open the fish, put the wasabi on the rice, then close it.... Why on the earth would they do that? The fish was nothing special, just your usual tuna, scallop, sweet shrimp, the mackerel was very fishy. For dessert, the crumble was sandy, the strawberry and green tea thing was very cheap and tasted VERY bad, couldn't finish them. Only thing good was the hojicha moose. For the soup, I didn't get why they used starch to thicken it, also didn't get the big chunks of yuzu peel, the soup was bland and didn't need it. Starter, the jelly fish was very sour. The starter overall could use less vinegar. Main course was the only course that was actually decent. However when I finished the fish and got to the Wagyu it was already cold and it was not pleasant. I really liked the dipping sauce tho. My drink was also terrible, got a mock cocktail and it tasted like chemicals. Tried my best but also couldn't finish it. Servers also looked kind of lost at this place. Overall I didn't have much expectations but somehow this place still managed to disappoint. Like the menu didn't really resemble your usual Kaiseki menu but fine. The place looked like a 20 dollars sushi lunch place not a fine dining place but okay. I didn't expected it to be authentic or match places I went in Japan, but I expected it to be at least tasty for a $500 dinner. But it did not... EDIT: Their regular menu looked alright but this place is definitely not cut to do any kind of Kaiseki or Omakase. They should learn to do the basic like flavoring and cooking stuff properly first.
Hoshi is one of the amazing Japanese restaurants I have taken, perfectly attracted by their special offer and also delicious foods. In addition, they’re so nice and kind to explain all food to us, good service with food overall!!
This restaurant is by the seawall so it's best to come on a sunny day to enjoy your meal with a great view! The servers were super friendly and the ambience was pleasant. We enjoyed their Teishoku sets the most!
I won a gift card from Hoshi thru IG so my wife & I went today for lunch. It's our first time to be in this restaurant. We ordered Hoshi Special Gozen, Sukiyaki Set and Tuna Mango Salsa. The taste is so perfect for my health, its not salty & just right flavor. Very flavorful indeed. 1. Sukiyaki - The beef is so tender, the veggie, tofu, noodle & broth are all so flavorful. 2. Hoshi Special Gozen - This was served as in two sets of platter. One platter is sashimi, 2 kinds of aburi oshi sushi while the other platter is Grilled sliced salmon with veggies and a piece of japanese burger. This is the killer, soooo good. 3. Albacore Tuna Mango Salsa is to die for. The dressing is like sweet & soury. I love how the blend of this dressing. so flavorful. We end up finishing all the food, no left over. I commend the servers. They are so friendly. Always checking if everything is alright. Hoshi is now my No. 1 Japanese Restaurant that I will definitely comes back. It's worth your money.
OMG so glad we found this gem right by the water! So the location and view is obviously amazing, and what was surprising was that we found free parking no probs! So aside from the stunning view, the food is also amazing! I mean, just go eat and find out for yourself! We reserved and preordered some teishoku online- super easy and hassle free! The lunch sets have the traditional flavor I’m looking for and the quality is on point. I dare you to find a place such amazing lunch sets at their price point with this kind of view! Service is outstanding too! I’m a huge fan of uni and Hoshi’s was as fresh and buttery as it gets and pricing was super affordable. Then there’s their grilled squid- perfectly charred with gentle smoke Then the sukiyaki - this is the first time I actually ate one in town that I really enjoyed! The other lunch sets are super yum and fresh - seeing the photos again already made me hungry for more! Would I go back to Hoshi again? Yes, in a heart beat!
