We've been here several times, as we love the Rigatoni Bolognese and their special stuffed pasta which changes regularly is always tempting! Tonight we ventured to try a few other pasta dishes as well. The marinated olives and foccacia are a great starter. The Black Rose is one of the best drinks I've ever had! Friday night around 5:30pm we didn't have reservations, but scored seats at the bar, and received tremendous service by the male bartender that night!
last dinner in Northampton was savory and very filling. Had 2 pastas, 1 appetizer, 2 desserts for 3 people. Great portions for sharing, get the focaccia!
Began the meal with the focaccia and the burrata. Both were really good. The burrata was placed on a bed of cabbage and sweet potato, interesting profile and pairings, would definitely recommend trying it. The focaccia came out quickly and had enough pieces that we were also able to enjoy it with our entrees. I was disappointed that I wasn't able to try the menu addition that featured the scallops. Ordered the ricotta dumplings pasta and they were okay, the sausage that was in the dish was pretty good. Our other entree was the spaghetti that had a buckwheat pasta and mushrooms, definitely a different taste than "normal" pasta but was good. The martini was made well and the service was pretty quick and definitely pleasant.
Fresh creative, dishes in a comfortable, if not a bit loud, atmosphere. Would have been 5 stars if all 5 of the dishes we ordered to share had not come at the same time.
We started the night by being brought to what I’d consider the worst table in the restaurant when there were plenty of other tables available. When we asked for the table by the window which was more out of the way and may have been in a quieter area so we could talk, the young “hostess” went off in a huff. She then came back and told us we couldn't have the table we wanted because they only were only able to accommodate three at that table. However, there were four chairs with settings for four. When we were leaving she sat four people there. Maybe we weren't young enough for the front window. The hard surfaces created so much noise we could barely hear each other. The food was just okay. The appetizers were boring! The meatballs didn’t have a good flavor and were served with an acidic tomato sauce. My pasta dish was dry with very little flavor. My martini was small for the price and not properly chilled. Our waitperson was lovely! Sadly, after hearing good things about this place, I have to say it was not worth the time, money and calories! I would never recommend this restaurant!
Went here for my birthday and WOW that spaghetti...I'm dreaming of it. The pasta was perfectly cooked and seasoned, and oh my lord those mushrooms! Great beer selection, tons of other fun drink options, a chill atmosphere with great service. I will absolutely be back, and I highly recommend it!
I enjoyed the mid August heat in August by pairing a glass of rosé with shishito peppers. Their food is both simple and thoughtful the way it should be IMO. Pleasant waitstaff too. Would like to see better wine by the glass to choose from but I get it that it’s maybe hard to maintain due to Covid's impact on restaurants. Star rating relative to restaurants in Western MA
The food here was really good, and I love the owner's attitude toward taking care of his kitchen staff by adding 5% to the bill. The timing of food delivery however, is off. We ordered cocktails and our food at the same time. I'd expect the cocktails to be delivered and be given a bit of time to enjoy them, but our focaccia and salad came 2 minutes later. Then we waited about 35 minutes for our "main" courses. The restaurant could also use some acoustic panels, or some other noise dampening decor as we couldn't hear each other, even though there were only two of us and the restaurant was only 1/2 full inside. The wait staff also seemed to be literally running by constantly which was a distraction to our meal.
Homestead is so many tiers above most of the other Northampton restaurants that it’s almost unfair. The food is original, flavorful, creative, and made with care. Drinks, apps, and ambiance are all phenomenal. The bolognese, Mafalde, whipped ricotta, and cheesecake are standouts, but it’s all good! This is a kitchen that cares deeply about food, and it shows. Fantastic every time.
This review is for my first visit to Homestead. The ambience was a bit more laid back than I expected. It felt a bit more like a bar and was a little loud, but relaxed. We had the octopus, Caesar salad, fusilli, and the fatto a mano. The Caesar salad was extremely well prepared and tasty, with just the right amount of pepper. The pastas were fresh and excellent.
