HMCS Haida, a Tribal Class destroyer built in England, was commissioned into the Royal Canadian Navy in 1943, serving in many theatres of operation through the Second World War. After a post-war refit, Haida continued in service through Korean War and Cold War situations, until she was decommissioned in 1963. The ship was acquired by the Province of Ontario and moved to Ontario Place (Toronto) in 1971. The ship was designated as a National Historic Site of Canada in 1984 by the federal government, and ownership was transferred to Parks Canada in 2002.

HMCS Haida arrived at Pier 9 in Hamilton Harbour on August 30, 2003, the 60th anniversary of her commissioning.

A chance to see how much ww2 was part of the the Canadian history. I truly wish she were in better condition. A fantastic experience for able bodied people. Very little wheel chair access for obvious reasons. Be prepared to spend an entire day here. It does get hot in the ship and plenty of climbing and squeezing through. Well worth the trip.

Super awesome boat to tour! It really takes you back. On the weekend it is common to find veterans there that either worked on her or a ship similar. I met a woman down in the boiler room that worked on a similar ship and she was a absolute sweetheart that had incredible library of knowledge about steam powered ships.

A destroyer that was used WW II and Korean War by Canadian Navy, converted to a Museum. You will have a great experience visiting the ship. It's a national historic site maintained by Parks Canada, located in Hamilton. If you visit Hamilton, this could be a nice addition to your "places to visit". Great Lake view. Nice friendly volunteers to show you and answer all your questions.

We've been here 3 times so far - twice on our own and once with a school tour. Very reasonable pricing and tons to see and do! The last Canadian destroyer left, lots of war history to learn about and how the ship and crew operated. It's very tight in spaces, lots of up and down ladders, high walkways and roped sides, but we've done it with a keen eye on small kids, while pregnant and with a baby in a carrier.

What a wonderful adventure, it was an awesome experience to be on the same ship that my grandfather served on. The staff on board were friendly and a wealth of knowledge. Canadian Heritage at its best Parks Canada has done a great job here, and during Canada 150 it couldn't have been a better time to check out about Canada's rich history in the Navy.
