It was a delight to dine last Saturday night at Henry’s Harbour Fish Restaurant on Georgian Bay in Parry Sound, Ontario, Canada. Easy parking and we decided to go as there was a lineup a previous night as they do first come first serve seating. We waited 5 minutes and sat outside on Parry Sound Harbour and Georgian Bay. It’s a beautiful and peaceful place for a family dinner. There were 4 of us so we ordered the family platter that includes 12 pieces of fish cooked with wheat breading, gluten-free breading or pan-fried no breading as well as baked beans, coleslaw and French fries/chips. We chose gluten free although some of our party wanted breaded as you can only choose one way for the platter - suggest offer other options as not sure it’s too tricky to organize by customer preference. I started with the Seafood Chowder and it was one of the best I’ve had due to the freshness of the seafood and flavour and consistency of the soup. The battered fish was just as fresh and the gluten free breading was light and provided a perfect crunch. I ate most of the beans and the coleslaw was a takeaway but looked high quality. Fries were perfect and their lager was scrumptious. See you again soon! Chris>
Beautiful location and patio and I’ve heard so much about Henry’s Fish and Chips. BUT, don’t bother with the calamari…dried out, tasteless and a very skimpy serving for $15. Had much much better at most places. The fish and chips were good and very generous serving with great fries. The only criticism would be that there was too much batter. Even though batter was very good we found ourselves peeling 1/2 of it off. Unfortunately the only fish they had was the Pickerel, Staff were amazing, helpful, accommodating and happy. The place itself from patio, interior, and washrooms were impeccable! We sat outside under the covered section which would be great if it’s raining. Amazing view of seaplanes taking off and landing, boats and the bustle of the harbour. Unfortunately we took no pictures of the food….sorry!
Fresh. Premium priced. My meal was over $50 for fish and chips with 1 small glass of house white. Generous portions of fish and chips but I wasn't overly impressed with the batter because it was very dark and hard overcooked. Most of it crumbled off the fish as I cut it up. Only about a tablespoon of coleslaw. More would have been appreciated. Bean paste and home-made tarter sauce on the side, about a tablespoon of each.nEdit: Other reviews show they received actual beans while mine was a thick paste which I just assumed was a spread for my fish. So lack of consistency in their food quality I'd say. It's a new place so they're still finding their feet I suppose.nnI ate less than half my meal which was such a waste. I asked about smaller meal portions however they don't offer them. The meal was OK and perhaps worth the value for bigger appetites on a good day when the good is prepared correctly. Ambiance is beautiful on Georgian Bay. They also feature a stone patio with fireplace and Muskoka chairs for lounging. My server was delightful. I dined on the outdoor patio which is also pet friendly.
Great service by Bobbi!nBeautiful restaurant overlooking the waterfront, newly built/renovated with indoor and outdoor seating options.nI had the gluten free fish and chips and my husband had the beer-battered fish and chips, we both rated our meals 5/5!nIt is such a treat to find a place that serves gluten free options.
Parry Sound was in need of some new eating establishments . Henry's is famous for their fish and chips. The location overlooking the water is perfect. Very large patio . One side open to above. The other is covered. Indoor area has a ton of natural light. We had the pickerel, pan fried with fries. It's very lightly breaded. You can get them with a heavier breading also. Fish was very good . Fries were not really to my liking. A little hard. Calamari appetizer was good. The salads look very good also. A number of patrons were ordering salads.nService was friendly and quick.nSome people complain about the costs of the fish. I would rather pay $32 for 3 PC's of fish than pay $30 for a burger like some restaurants in Muskoka.nThe patio chairs and tables are made of high density plastic. Very heavy duty plastic. All grey in colour . Actually very comfortable .nA bottle of wine was only $32. That's a good price for a bottle of any wine at a restaurant these days. We will definitely go back and try some of the other items on the menu.
