Perhaps not the best organized or run clinic but some of the doctors are nice. The focus (as probably with most innercity American public hospitals) is on people "on assistance". If you need a translator (Spanish, Somali, Hmong, etc) you'll be in good company here. Problems with billing, insurance coverage, stuff like that, ... well nobodies perfect!

When you call your doctors office and tell them that your trying to find parking, and they tell you that you have a 10-15 minute Grace period. And, you get up to the clinic right at the 15 minute period. But, all the receptionist are busy. Then you get to your room, and come to find out that once your in your room. The medical person tells you that you have to wait for almost an hour and a half for the doctor to finish with all of their other patients, before they can see you. How is that even fair?? Especially if you have to work, and dont have any more money for the parking meter. Cause you thought you would be out within 30 minutes.

This is a teaching hospital which seems to mean instead of one doctor you might have six around the bed. Also they seem to congregate outside the door while they discuss your case, which was unsettling to me. Second strike against this place is that you still have to share a room. This is outdated and extremely uncomfortable. Your roommate will hear all about your medical issues. What about HIPAA? I could tell you the name of my roommate, first and last, what she was in for, her health history, and much more. And we did not discuss these things. This was all from the doctors and nurses. Last major negative is their food. 90% of it is completely unappealing and inedible. The smell at times was so bad I had to have the tray removed from the room. Kevin in food service is awesome though. Most nurses were very nice but did seem to be overworked. There were several times I had to wait an hour and a half after calling for medication. The place is huge and easy to get lost in. Parking is not super convenient. Plan on walking at least a half a mile to get to the hospital. I would not choose this place. I was brought here by ambulance rather than my regular hospital.

A coworker of mine needed urgent medical care. HCMC was the closest medical facility so we headed that way. Upon arriving at the emergency room we were greeted with locked doors. No security was at the desk to let us into the emergency room. I hit a buzzer on the wall and it took somebody over 10 minutes to let us in the emergency room. I should mention that the person who let us in the room was somebody just getting to work. Pretty sad when you're at a hospital and you can't find anybody to help. First of all the security guard should have been fired. Other than that my overall experience was shity.

HCMC Outpatient Brain Trauma Clinic has the best Neuro Optho in the state of MN. Amy Chang is a very good doctor. Hard working, kind, positive attitude, results oriented.
