Strolling down Victoria and the name on the awning caught my attention. You don’t see many Vietnamese snack and drink places around the Lower Mainland. Here’s hoping that more will pop up. I scanned the menu and offerings and one of the first things I noticed was the Egg Coffee. I had only ever seen one other restaurant serve this in Vancouver and the steep price at this other restaurant held me back from trying it. So I was pleasantly surprised to see it priced very reasonably here at Hem377. For those who haven’t tried it, it’s more of a dessert drink as the egg makes it quite rich and could be called custard-like in taste. This is how I remember it from the cafes in Hanoi. The version at Hem was served cold and was kind of like a milk shake in taste and texture. I’ll like to see if I can try it hot next time. Also tried the Butter Corn with small shrimps. The small shrimps are the preserved and dried type so be forewarned if you don’t like those. Overall a nice first experience and looking forward to trying other menu items next time.
We decided to try this cafe because we were in the area. We enjoyed both drinks we got. I was worried we would have to wait long, after seeing reviews online, but the service was actually pretty quick. We wanted to try their flan but they were already sold out. I would definitely go back to try their other drinks.
Our daughter had her booster shot recently and since it's never fun to have a needle poked into your arm I decided to buy a sweet treat for her afterwards, to help soften the blow. We went to the Vietnamese coffee shop Hem 377 as it was just a few blocks further up the street from where she'd had her shot. She chose a drink called Spicy Peach and I bought an Ube Latte for myself. Spicy Peach: Sweet, refreshing, peachy and minty. Not at all spicy. The "Spicy" part of the drink actually referred to the mintiness of it. While mint isn't actually spicy it does tend to tingle your mouth a bit, and I suppose it's because of that tingly sensation that the word "spicy" was chosen for the name of the drink. Our daughter loved it and said she would order it again if we ever ended up at that coffee shop again. Ube Latte: I honestly felt that this drink was overrated. I'd seen and read about it quite a lot through various sources of media when Hem 377 first opened up. It's not a bad drink, but I couldn't really taste anything special about it either; I certainly didn't taste any Ube in it. It just tasted like a regular iced latte to me. I think I liked my daughter's Spicy Peach drink better. I'd order the Spicy Peach for myself if I ever go to Hem 377 again. Parking: Street Parking Service: Fair Location: Small shop on Victoria Dr. amongst many other Vietnamese shops. Keep a sharp lookout for it, or else it can be easy to miss.
My goal is to try every drink on their menu! I had their egg coffee and a friend of mine got the pandan. They both had strong flavors that aren't overpowered by the coffee - their egg coffee might be my favorite in the city. I'll be back for drinks and a lunch bowl!
It’s almost as a scam! I ordered from Uber eats: Fried pork banh mi: it’s not full, just half bowl. Butter corn: just small bowl and barely see shrimp or even green onions. Both I asked put hot sauce on a side but they didn’t do it. Drinks: Strawberry matcha cheesecake: barely see strawberry and didn’t have cookies crumbs on top. UBE latte: taste just all coffee, no yam. First order and I won’t order here again. Edit after owner responded: -The banhmi bowl: you tried to make it look full but not. Please take a look again your picture in Uber eats. -Same with the corn: doesn’t mean the customers ask extra or not. You should do as pictures or ads. The hot sauce wasn’t put a side, clearly could see it put on top all over. There is a huge mistake that you don’t have any small cup for sauce, extra etc… -I mixed the drinks no cookies crumb after tasting it. Same no yam flavor or you just put so little.
Try their black beef jerky deconstructed baguette. It’s super delicious and very authentic vietnamese street food/snack flavours. It has a hint of spice, slightly sweett and savory dish. Also, the pandan coffee was delicious, not too sweet and very fragrant. My friend had the thai red milk tea and it was also delicious! A bit on the sweeter side but a good sweet. Will definitely come back
I've been regular customer here since day one, and can tell the drink and food quality is always tastefully consistent. The owner Kbee and her staffs are super friendly to recommend me new drinks every time. What I like about this coffee shop is all the ingredients durian, ube, cream foam... are freshly made everyday, you can tell the difference after the first sip. We need more shops like this in Vancouver. Strongly recommended to support locals.
Personally, I found the food and drinks to be excellent. I enjoyed the foods and drinks here, the staff was very friendly and the service speed was fast. They completed the drinks and foods as quickly as possible, you can't say that their service is slow because when people work as a server, no one wants their customers to wait long. Obviously, when there are too many customers lining up, you cannot expect that your order will be completed quickly in a short time; once you put yourself in the position of serving, you will have to sympathize with them. Finally, the decoration is very ornate and eye-catching. The slightly vintage-style decoration combined with modern has attracted a lot of customers to take pictures, get a drink and eat here. Everything is very neat and clean. Yeah! Be easy-going and reasonable customers!
Lovely place with unique vibe. Love how they use the plastic milk crate as the stand for the table. The coffee there is amazing you can definitely taste the freshness. Love the ube latte and coconut drip.
This unique cafe has some strong coffee! I had the UBE latte with oat milk and it’s quite good! Highly recommend Pandan Drip coffee! It’s so good.
