Best fish tacos I've ever had! Sweet potato fries were perfectly cooked. Andes chocolate cake was to die for. Great portions and very reasonably priced. Menu has a variety of items. Great decor, tastefully done in beautiful antiques. Can't wait to go back and try something new! A+ would recommend.Dine in: YesTakeout: Yes
VERY PRICEY! Pros: The lobster was fresh and taste good. CON: We were charged "market price" for what we're told by the manager was 6 ounces of Lobster meat same as the meat from 3 whole lobsters. We definitely DID NOT have 6 Lobster claws and 3 tails served to us. We had one ice cream scoop of mashed potatoes. We definitely stood out as tourists. We should have listened to our RV parks recommendation to skip Helen's and wait for Union River Lobster Pot to open for a better experience.
After hearing great reviews from our AirBnb host, we were so excited to check this place out. However to say the food was disappointing would be generous, as this was the worst food we had in Maine. The four of us came with a dog, there was no outdoor seating. Okay, no problem. So we got the food to go. We ordered off the menu, which has apparently not been updated and things were significantly more expensive than listed. For example my pasta with scallops was listed as $18 but when got rung up, was actually $28. Okay, fine slight sticker shock but COVID and inflation, whatever. Then we got home with the food. The lazy lobster, which was a whopping $44, was a couple of sad pieces of lobster in a cup. Doubtful this was a full lobster as there was no tail. It also had a funky smell to it which leads me to believe it is not “Maine fresh”. The Alfredo with scallops was also lackluster and tacos were soggy. Blueberry pie was tasteless, not sweet and overall underwhelming. Very disappointing for our last meal in Maine.
The food is okay at best. I would recommend the clam chowder and fish tacos Do NOT get the seafood chowder. Everything else is subpar. I would also suggest trying Lobster Rolls somewhere else. The blueberry pie was good. Overall the restaurant setting and service was good though just shadowed by bland food.Food: 2/5
This is a mandatory place to visit in this region. My wife and I tried the French Onion Soup, the taste is great, good portion, with cheese and croutons. Also, the poutine with cheese and the house made gravy is terrific. I did not have enough time to take pictures of the pork ribs, baked potato, and salad. I had never tried raspberry vinaigrette sauce before. As dessert, we tried chocolate and custard pie. It was amazing!
Irish Nachos! Kinda like stuffed potato skins. They were delicious! Also got a piece of Coconut pie to go and it was out of this world. My friend had the blueberry pie and as great too but almost too much blueberries and not enough crust.
Skinny onion rings were great. Had the crab roll. Plenty of crab with a light coating of mayo on a toasted piece of Texas bread folded. $20. With ruffles potato chips. Yummy.
Helen's is a wonderful surprise; what looks like a regular chain restaurant, yet has remarkably tasty local cuisine, and great customer service! The Maine seafood is fresh, the prices are fair, and the drinks are tasty! Try an apple cider mimosa with brunch or a cranberry Moscow Mule with dinner.... I left very satisfied, as did my family. Just leave room for homemade pie. Wish I had.... Helen's is a hidden gem!
Long wait to be seated. Asked for my tea and pie to be served first, was brought my soup first. Asked for steak to be medium rare it was cooked medium. I did not eat it. Let the server know, she offered to have it re-cooked but by that time I had already finished most of the meal since it took her so long to check in. No offer to adjust the bill. Lobster stew was very good. Fried scallops were mediocre. Lobster and butter was good. It’s a very popular place but I was unimpressed for spending $87!on my meal. Did not return. Took my service elsewhere for the rest of my stay
Not being from the area, we stopped at Helen's because we were looking for a place for lunch. We have to say, we were blown away by the quality of the food! I had the best fish sandwich I've ever eaten! The huge pile of onion rings were amazing as well! My wife had a BLT avocado wrap and she was so impressed with the freshness! She said the sweet potato fries were so fluffy once you got past the perfect crunch of the the outer fry! Stacey B was our server and she had the most genuine smile and was perfectly attentive! Great job to all! We will return when we come back to the area for sure!
