Story

Aloha! Hawaiian Smiles is a dental practice in the Beaverton neighborhood of Murrayhill. The practice began in the early 1950s in downtown Beaverton with Dr. Gordon Stratford. When Dr. Stratford retired in 1985, his nephew, Dr. David Barney, took over and moved the practice to Murrayhill. He grew the practice into the thriving family dental office it is today.

In 2016, Dr. Barney retired and passed the torch to Dr. Douglas W. Shafer. Originally from Western Washington, Dr. Shafer is excited to be in Oregon and part of our community. He earned his undergraduate degree from Brigham Young University and his dental degree at the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Dentistry. He previously practiced in Hillsboro, and he's a member of several dental associations.

With friendly, conscientious care--and some laughs--Dr. Shafer's mission is to help you feel happy with your smile and overall health. He is committed to using the latest innovations and technology. He takes regular continuing education courses and volunteers at elementary schools and clinics for underprivileged patients.
