This place is legendary. Anyone who slags this place you have every right to. But. I would say. It's always important to remember our histories and I feel like this building and what it does are a part of that, whether we like it to be or not. Boy voice to text allows for some very interesting reviews of restaurants. I'm mostly plant-based but I have had their fish at least a bite of it and it was good. They're fries are dope and I love their sign, so that's all I have to say about that
Very warm, welcoming, and delicious food. Able to accommodate for gluten-free, extra candies after the meal was very sweet
Our fave fish and chip shop in Victoria, for dine in and takeout. Happened to walk by tonight and popped in for dinner. Service is always quick and friendly and the food delicious. We love it and will return. Happy this is in our neighbourhoodRecommended dishes1 Piece Halibut
This was the worst fish & chips I ever had. The cod fish was not fresh and the fries were from a package not freshly cut potatoes. Don't waste your time and money to even think about going to eat at Haultain Fish & Chips. There are much better places to have good fish & chips.Food: 1/5
This is where my family would always get our fish and chips when I was little. I hadn’t been back in over a decade and I understand it has changed hands. It still had the understated and comfortable old school vibe. The person serving us was very friendly and happy to help if we needed her. The food was great and it also managed to scratch the nostalgic itch I had. Definitely going back. Grateful the dining experience held up even after new ownership.
We stopped here for a mid-afternoon snack, ordered the 2-piece halibut and chips. The batter was perfectly crispy, you hear the crunch as you bite into it. The batter wasn’t too thick and the halibut was tender and flaky. $26.95 which is the least expensive of what I’ve found so far.
I’m so sorry, but our meal tonight was awful. The best things about the meal were the lovely couple operating the restaurant and the fresh, cold water we were served to drink. The fish was very bitter and greasy, it seemed like the oil needed to be changed a long time ago. I ordered some oysters and I think they had gone bad and then were fried in rancid oil. I am a bit worried that the small amount I had might make me sick. The coleslaw seemed ok, and the fries weren’t that rancid tasting. Note to the lovely owners: Please change your oil and stop serving oysters. We had a friend with us in a wheelchair and it was uncomfortable for her. She was looking so forward to this evening as a visitor who had been to Haultain years ago. Wheelchair accessibility: Not great. Uncomfortable for our friend dining in her wheelchair.
Was a nice experience, fish and chips were very hot and tasty. Service was top notch! My grandmother who is a tough judge on fish and chips found it very good.
In a neighborhood. A plain looking older diner. A hidden gem of absolutely DELICIOUS halibut, ling cod and chips!Food: 5/5
Well just left this place and was not impressed. We changed our minds on the fish due to the portions being tiny and the price we were being changed was crazy. The lady looked at us in complete distain that we walked away with only an $8 apposed to a $40 charge. I wouldn’t recommend this place at all and would suggest you drive just a little further and go to christie’s pub or somewhere else. Bad attitude and they chose not give us any ketchup or vinegar after changing our minds. They hadn’t even dropped the fish so it’s not like they were out any money. Total douche bag attitude.
