The glass flowers/sealife exhibit is worth the entire trip. This isn't a super high tech place but this has an old school vibe because if it ain't broke don't fix it. Remarkable collection. You can get to the Peabody from the same building, go to the stairs.

Our family's vote for best museum in Boston. A fascinating and enormous collection of specimens of rocks and minerals, prehistoric skeletons and stuffed/mounted creatures from around the world. Live, guided exhibits on the weekends – this Sunday we saw (and touched) a horseshoe crab, a scorpion, and a starfish. Entertaining for the whole family and kids of all ages. Free admission for Massachusetts residents (with proof of residency) on Sundays from 9–12, and Wednesdays after 3pm.

If you're a fan of (1) taxidermy, (2) minerals, crystals, rocks or (3) glass flowers or (4) mesoamerican cultural artifacts, then this museum is for you! My son and father-in-law really love the mineral room - so many colorful and shiny specimens. Pros: reasonable admission price, historic brick building on Harvard campus, exhibits are good for old and young family members Cons: parking is limited, museum is up two flights of stairs, building is very drafty in winter, you can see the whole museum in 2 to 4 hours. If you've already done the Museum of Science, the Museum of Fine Art, and the Isabella Stewart Gardener, this is a good next-place-to-visit-on-a-rainy-day.

Incredible collections, well presented and explained. The glass flowers and plants alone are of such wonderful craftsmanship that they are worth a visit to Boston all by themselves. Don't miss out.

Not overwhelmingly large so you can thoroughly do this museum in 2-3 hours. By far the coolest taxidermy collection I've ever seen at a museum! I've never gotten to stand beside full scales of many of the animals on display, and it was eye opening. I had no idea some of these animals were so huge! (And thanks to a second floor, you're also able to "stand beside" the whale skeletons to get a full scale of that too! Humans are so small!) Also, The bottom floor of the Plymouth museum was empty so we got to fully explore it by ourselves which was super nice.
