This restaurant has such a great authentic atmosphere. It makes you feel like you are dining in a village I'm China! The cuisine is Northeastern Chinese which is hearty and warming. The built in woks at each table is traditional and the food is not only super delicious but also true to their roots. If highly recommend the lamb pot, sweet and sour pork and pork intestines. The food was amazing and the service was even better. Highly recommended! We'll be back!
Growing up not too far from Happy Village, I never got to really try North Eastern Chinese cuisine before. It was such a treat to learn about the culture and taste food from this region. The minute you walk in you get a feast for the eyes as the ambience makes you feel like you are in the culture itself. The staff provided such wonderful service and shared a lot of detail about the unique iron pot stews offered and how it differs from other hot pot places. Chester provided such amazing service and care to our table. We tried the chicken and mushroom stew and the braised beef stews. We also had appetizers and dessert. I really enjoyed the chicken and mushroom stew. Highly recommend the lamb appetizer and the Chinese style dates for desserts. I really enjoyed the portions and variety of food and would like to come back as it's a great spot for groups. This place shows that there is so much diversity in food from one country and it was great experiencing food from north eastern China. Thank you to Yelp and also to the staff at Happy Village for wonderful service.
My two favourite dishes were obviously the two Iron Pots: 1 Tomato Braised Beef Brisket + Flower Pancake and 2 Chicken + Corn Flower Pancake. This is the first time I had food cooked in a Iron Pot, so it is quite special. Because both Iron Pots were soup based, the meat were very tender and delicious. The other dishes were also delicious. The dessert was unique. Overall, the decor of the restaurant and the room that we were in were distinct and provided a wonderful, joyous atmosphere. our server was friendly and courteous. Two Thumbs up to him.
The interior of this restaurant immerses you to Northern China with it’s beautiful traditional decor, farm-like details, and touches of red. This food experience was very different from my usual experiences with Chinese food as I never tried Iron Pot Stew - all the dishes were presented so nicely and were very flavourful and tasty. Here are each of the dishes we tried: Five vegetables with noodle - a light and tasty dish to start. Salted egg yolk prawns - so unique and tasty, reminded us of mooncakes! Shovel stir fry lamb - tasty and full of flavour from the cumin which i always enjoy. Iron Pot: Chicken stewed with mushrooms mild spicy [2-4 servings] + corn flour pancake - so interesting to watch the staff prepare. It's a very unique and tasty dish. I found it a bit salty for my liking. Iron Pot: Tomato braised beef brisket [2-4 servings] + flower pancake - I enjoyed this dish a lot as I like tomato based dishes. The beef was also very tasty and enjoyable. Fried pork with sweet and sour sauce - slightly tough, but very tasty. Caramelized sugar on sweet potato - a sweet treat after all the savoury foods. We also got fruits and popsicles! The staff were attentive and helpful - they did the hotpot cooking and described each dish.
This is a newly opened restaurant serving Chinese northeastern cuisine : stew goose is the signature dish, featuring a giant iron wok cooking variety of foods at the table. Also can add additional dishes and use the wok as a hot pot. Servers are all very young but have enthusiasm to provide good services. Interesting interior design and decorations, bold and vivid red / green colours. Price is reasonable, portion size is good too. Stew goose-4/5 Pancake in stew-4/5 Cold noodles-4/5 Would recommend to make reservations if you’re coming at dinner time.
No goose available, ordered ribs instead, it was average. The corn bread was undercooked. The batter of sweet and sour pork was too thick. The clear noodle salad was fine. The fried twist was soft, sweet and delicious. The services were excellent.
The portions were generous, and the service was excellent. Unfortunately, they were out of goose, so I ordered chicken stew with mushrooms, they are sold out the special mushroomso they used Shiitake insteadit would have been better with regular mushrooms because shiitake overpowered the chicken's flavor. The corn tortillas were soft and fragrantthe decorative pancakes on top looked festive. The iron shovel lamb was well-cooked and tender. The sugar coated sweet potato and purple yam dessert with dates was well-prepared and had a great texture. The crispy pork in sweet and sour sauce was done well, with a nice crispy exterior and tender inside, although the sauce a bit too sour for my taste. The iced jelly dessert had generous toppings.
We came to Happy Valley Village with party of 4. We joined the waitlist at 6 and shop around area and were sat down at the table by 7.30pm. The ambiance of this place is phenomenal. It is themed like dining in old Chinese village. It is quite a unique experience. We ordered the lamb stew small portion with a few extra sides, and sweet and sour pork, sir fry achoy, and cold noodles. Our waitress Jenny did an excellent job guiding us as it was our first time dining at Happy Village. The lamb stew was very good, and mild is about the right spiciness for our taste. We also enjoyed the other dishes. The portion was just right for our party, which consists of 1 guy and 3 ladies. The price we felt was also fair. Overall, it was a great dinner for us.
Really great atmosphere!! They have a 2 hour seating limit, but when you order a stew it has to cook for 15 minutes on the table before you can eat it. The stew tastes great, but it’s not very salty. We ordered the medium spice level, and it didn’t feel spicy at all. The portions are very large though, we had to pack up a lot of food in the end. Parking: Lots of parking, it’s in a huge plaza and very easy to find
Brought our family of 8 for lunch and had a really great time! It was very unique that they cooked the dish in front of you. We ordered the fish main dish for 2 to 4 people and ordered some other side dishes and stir fry dishes. But the next time we go, we will order the larger main dish and have a few less of the other stir fry dishes. The main dish in the middle wok was definitely the highlight! And we will for sure order the lamb shovel stirfry again. The decor was also great, and my family had a great time with the aprons they give you to make sure you don't splash yourselves!
