I always never get disappointed at this place. The rice entrees are always very good, and exactly like the pictures. The hot pots, however, don't look like the pictures that much. If you order seafood tofu pot, they will have seafood but you will not see the exact same image in front of you. Today I ordered a special sauce noodle, and the food was delicious as usual. A very good price for the amount they give you. Cons : You might have to worry about the one fly that is constantly buzzing around in the restaurant. Milk teas are a bit sweet, so make sure to tell them the percentage of sugar.
This place was great, I had the Mapo Tofu and beef with rice with the salty peppery chicken nuggets and a lychee balck tea. It was all tasty and came out very quickly. The server was friendly and helpful. I would like to come here again and try some of the other items on the menu.Food: 5/5
Quick lunch, hits the spot. Very reasonably priced at just under $13 per dish, wife and I needed a simple but tasty meal with no fuss. Service was quick and friendly. One of my favourite places for a meal.
Very disappointed of this. The take out portion seems to be cut in half. We ordered a fried chicken nugget fried rice, but the entire portion is just like the image taken. The side dish as well, completely not worth it. The food itself taste fine, but not as good compared with others. Will not recommended this restaurant..
Exceeded my expectations! The mapo tofu no.22 on the menu and fish soup no.4 on the menu both were really tasty and had large portions! Definitely would come back many times for a solid lunch :
Thursday, November 10, 2022. Along with my wife we dined in around 8:30pm. 1. The male server is very incompetent. Upon ordering he’s rushing us to order. And keep asking is that it? Like my wife just finished telling him her order of course I would place my order too. 2. I asked for an empty bowl. Upon watching him, He took a dirty bowl from the counter, brought it to the front counter sink and washed. He gave me literally a WET BOWL right from the sink without even washing the bowl with soap or using dishwasher. 3. The server was preparing a green tea order and he literally took water from the sink and placed on the plastic cup. Really? Store charges $5.00 Green Tea that the water is from the common sink? 4. He took the garbage from the washroom without washing his hands after, I feel disgusted and he touches take out containers. 5. See photo for reference, Male server placed the dirty/filty garbage container on top of the menus that they hand out to customers. Seriously? Is that how to run a business? The health and sanitation of this establishment is very concerning. I always give 15-25% Tip but this time I only gave 10%. I am considering to file a formal complaint with Richmond Health Department, I solely believe that this establishment has poor healthy and safety sanitation.
Ordered take out, I can understand it's busy and the restaurant is probably understaffed, but it doesn't excuse the waitress from being rude and unprofessional. I literally waited in front of the counter for 3 minutes and waited for the waitress to greet, only for her to avoid conversation and eye contact the whole time, and when I finally told her about my order, she didn't even bother to check my order status and just told me straight up its not ready yet. Food is poor and below the regular standard too.
TL:DR: If you know what you're getting in to, this spot provides exceptional value for money and is a sort of comfort food that hits the spot for me. Order the 11. Signature BBQ Meat medium spice or more if you don't know what to order, since that's what they excel at. You get lots of yummy fatty pork, a healthy helping of various veggies and mapo tofu on a gigantic bed of rice. It also comes with seaweed soup, which can be hit and miss, but is mostly a hit. Also try Taiwanese style nuggets, everything else may be hit and miss appetizers 15-24 have been always solid. Service was hit and miss, but has improved a lot recently, which has lead me to write this review. Going to start off by saying that I've been to many of this stores "locations." They all have slightly different names, but the menu is almost exactly the same. The original location might be Han Ju at Crystal Mall and I've been a customer ever since I was a hungry teenager with no money quite a few years back. They also have hadhave? a store in Kerrisdale with probably different owners but the spirit of the restaurant was still there. I will focus on this location since it's the one I have the most experience as of late. I would say the style of this restaurant is Taiwanese-Korean fusion, the owners of the different locations have seemed to be either Taiwanese and Cantonese or both. I've seen these kinds of restaurants in China Guangzhou with a very similar premise and menu as well. After discovering the Han Ju location which at the time offered their aforementioned Signature BBQ Meat on rice for $8.50. As a hungry highschooler with no allowance and limited working hours, this was the spot to go after hanging out near Metrotown or Crystal mall. They also have decent milk tea, good side dishes, and great combination offerings. The Kerrisdale location offered the same great food and low prices, except it was next to my highschools. It's a shame it closed down. If you needed a place to fill you up, this place has you sorted. I discovered this location in Richmond after moving here a few years back. The food at this location is honestly worse than the original, except for the #11. I can attribute this to the kitchen being operated by only one person for the most part, it's forgivable as running a business in this spot is difficult and I've watched them go through a lot of changes and they have been improving. The waiter and waitress working there right now are a far step above the dude they had working there pretty often pre covid. They often get hit with big lunch/dinner rushes that they can't handle, but have improved a lot You still get some of the best value in terms of food quantity and that's where they excel. I'm glad they haven't changed this after all these years. All the side dishes are worth giving a go, 15-24 are especially good if you get a combo with a drink. The catch is they probably don't make these ones in house. I could be wrong though. This place in all of it's incarnations has provided me with many great memories and filled my stomach for many years and will continue to get my business. Times have changed, prices have gone up slightly with inflation but the core of the business is still the same. I hope they can sort out a lot of the operational problems and stay in business. I hope for the best for everyone working here. Yes, the place has it's ups and downs bad home cooking at it's worst and great comfort food at best, but tailor your expectations and you'll have a great time eating here. edit: I've been informed the Kerrisdale one is still in operation, but is very different i'll have to give it another go sometime.
The food is not fresh and super salty, tofu was sour, rice tasted like left over. the main dish was full of black ashes from pan. It is the worst take out I’ve ever ordered. For staff at restaurant whoever replied, if you really want to solve this, please be honest and prepare real fresh and eatable food for every customers in the future.
Customer service and the wait time for the food was ridiculously long. Another 3 pairs of couples arrived after my mom and I and all of their food arrived before ours came. The other couples ended up finishing their meal and ours was yet to arrive yet. The staff kept saying " it's coming, it's coming" but we really had to keep asking them about the status of our food as it was pretty obvious that our food had not come yet while everyone else's had arrived.
