Grandma Liu Hot Pot

We actually really like eating here. Love the soup base and enjoying picking out our own stuff. We usually get 1 soup and load up with stuff we want. Staff friendly and the facilities are clean. I would recommend eating here! And we will be back!

I love coming here for a hot noodle soup. The flavour combo is great and not overly spicy. I always have had friendly service here. From the outside it looks closed a lot of the times because they pull down the blinds. The ordering system is simple you just pick all your ingredients by weight. I love that there is a serve yourself area for cups, bowls, rice, sauces, cutlery etc., even take out containers! You can easily tally up $20-$30 for a noodle soup. But it is also sharing friendly so it is probably enough for two people.

Well, the service might not be excellent though I still like here, and this spot is my favourite for malatang !! This was my first malatang experience in my entire life, and I like it now afterward..!oh, by the way, I have been to two branches, either in Burnaby or Richmond. I like Richmond one more ! + plus, if they could care about hygienics, it would be great..! Bcoz I sometimes saw that would be a little bit inappropriate health control for the customer side. I still like going here and hope that they will maintain their business well!

The ma la tang soup was good. However the cost for what you get is extremely expensive. One bowl was $30 and the other was $25. Not much stuff inside the soup. The place was clean, but also small so if they’re busy you will have to wait outside. Overall, not worth the price.

I love coming here, compared to other noodle soup restaurants, because you have a choice of the ingredients and the amount: I can choose to have more vegetables or none at all! Soup is nice and hot, so great for colder days.

From my experience, I would provide 5 stars however not everyone will have the same experience since the server although very friendly and courteous cannot communicate in English. Mandarin is no problem. Good thing my Mandarin is sufficient so I had a good time. The soup is great as it is rich in taste and savoury and you can choose the level of spiciness and numbness but you will need to communicate it which again will be hard if you do not speak Mandarin. Ingredients are fresh and they keep restocking. I'll explain a little how it works here. Everything at the ingredients counter is $2.99 per 100g so if you choose items that are hydrated in water or frozen you will be paying for the absorbed water as well. You may have individual bowls or shared. They only have one soup base and they don't extra charge for individual ceramic bowls. The scale starts at negative weight to offset the container weight. The spices sesame paste, pepper oil numbing level, chili oil spicy level and garlic are included and you can request to have as much as you want. Rice is $1.50 per bowl per person and unlimited refills for now. You may add an egg for a dollar.

Absolutely amazing hotpot! Fairly priced, excellent and easy to find location, clean and aesthetically pleasing shop, and friendly staff on top of the excellent, delicious and high quality food that’s offered. I’ll definitely be returning soon.
