10% discount on everything , I think. They recently changed their Chinese name to although the signs bearing the previous name has not been replaced so it feels like you went to . Food is in good portion. Good value for all the dim sum in general. Their menu is extensive. If you like spicy or Szechuan , you won’t be disappointed as there are a lot of spicy choices. Parking lot in front is quite small 25-30 cars max and stalls are very narrow. We like their deep fried crispy tofu cubes, crispy tofu wrap with fish paste, and the pan fried black cod with soy sauce
Hong Mao offers more then your regular dim sum items, their Chef’s Selections are extensive, but if you still prefer the old stand-bys, shrimp dumplings, Siu mais, Beef Balls & Steamed Rice Rolls, their portions are slightly bigger then most similar prices establishments! Prices here are above average & so is the service! Parking is free but make sure you check the signs!
I enjoyed dim sum. The tea was good. The environment is nice because of the spacious room and high ceilings. However they forgot a dish and we try to cancel because we had an appointment and they kept insisting it be here in minutes one fricking dish took 40minutes and wouldn’t let us cancel the dish. This really soured our experience. I would only consider coming here as a last resort.
Great for group gathering. Tried the dinner set table menu, the price is a bit higher than expected but the service balanced it. Heard the dim sum during lunch time is a good choice too. Dishes I had were above average; however, none of them really marked an impression except the dog shaped cake at the end. Lots of parking available at front.
Covid review. Place is well spaced our and very spacious. No one greeted us at the door or screened us. There were a bunch of signs in Chinese but I cant read it so maybe they were screening questions. Staff was wearing masks and appeared to have good overall covid protocols. We sat at one large table for 5. They give u a thermos of hot water and large bowl if u want to rinse your dishes before I eat. Food was tasty and had excellent presentation. Well portioned. Large menu with pictures in Chinese and English. They also do take out and seemed to be doing steady business. Large parking lot. Price is $$$.
Dim Sum here is very good and innovative. Love the truffle chicken tart. Also portions are very generous. Servers are very attentive and captains stopped by multiple times to ensure we got adequate service. Overall, excellent food and service.
It is good Cantonese style dim sum. A bit on the pricey side, but it give you a luxurious experience. Owner is from Beijing. If you spent more than $50 during breakfast, you can get a half chicken with $10. Very tasty.
Hong Mao is a Chinese restaurant located next to the Yaohan Centre on No. 3 Road in Richmond. They have a rather strange interior with an unexpectedly huge waiting area in the front, and 2 different sections of the restaurant that have varying ceiling heights. I imagine the somewhat cavernous section is the reason why this restaurant is so loud. I mean, even for a typical Chinese restaurant, this place seemed loud! While there was a small number of parties waiting to be seated for dim sum, they took us in right away benefits of only needing a small table for 2. The Siu Mai $8.80 was the first dish to arrive and had ample amounts of plump pork and shrimp filling. While I thought the Seafood Efu Noodles $22.80 were a bit pricey given the relatively small size, it was still a tasty dish. There’s something about how easy it is to eat these noodles that’s so pleasing. The Chinese Donut Rice Rolls $8.80 was prepared a bit different than we’re accustomed to. In this case, the dried pork floss was served inside the rice wrapper which also had green onions and dried shrimp embedded in it. The only downside to this dish is that I thought they cut the pieces a bit too big. The visually similar Fish Paste Rice Roll $8.80 was next and was very enjoyable. Inside the smooth rice roll was a tasty fish paste filling encased in crispy tofu. The Chicken Feet with Special Sauce $7.80 were quite large and fall-off-the-bone tender. Last up was the Steamed Beef Balls with watercress, cilantro, and water chestnuts $7.80. Again, another well prepared dish. If you don’t mind the difficulty finding parking, the loud din, and the somewhat higher priced dishes, the food is actually quite good. I also liked the pretty bird plates that they use here but I can do without those chairs with that curved mould that made it difficult to sit. Note that there was a 12% discount for dim sum when we went.
The food is just acceptable. Not as great as the other Chinese restaurant dim sum. We went for dim sum and most of the food looks good but when it comes to taste it is quite off. But not to the worst part. That’s why the food here is acceptable but not worth the price. They are quite expensive for dim sum compared to other high end with great quality. I would recommend other dim sum like Chef’s Tony in Richmond. That is so far my best dim sum place with quality food and price is reasonable.
Was okey, the was service good. The food looked good but some of the items could have been cooked better. Other items could have been cooked less or a little bit longer. The settings of the place was really nice though. Maybe we will try the regular items next time.
