Don’t tell Argentina hairstylist Carmelo Gugliotti that the United States is not the land of opportunity. He risked his family’s future on that dream, and it has produced storybook results. In 1986, Gugliotti moved his wife and four sons to Hartford from Argentina, and opened up a barbershop in Hartford’s Little Italy on Franklin Avenue. “I saw the opportunities, and I took advantage,” Gugliotti recalls. Within four years, he tripled the shop’s size, expanding his business into a hair salon to serve both men and women, and moved across the street into a larger facility. His four sons — Leonardo, Ariel, Martin and Damian — also are taking advantage of the opportunities connected with expanding their father’s business. Since 2002, the sons have started up three new enterprises related to their father’s salon, Gugliotti’s Hair Fashions.
