This is a truly pleasant area park. There's a jungle gym and a ball court, and keeping in mind that there are frequently others there, it never appears to be excessively packed. It's gated with a huge field, which is decent for bringing your canine and individuals are acceptable with regards to getting after their canines here.
It's a nice park I just wish they change out the garbage cans more often it is Chicago.
This is a surprisingly complete park, given its size. There's a large open grass side with plenty of room for multiple ball games. There's a concrete basketball court with baskets at each end and across the court as well, allowing for shot practice. The playground has activities for all ages sh regular and infant swings and jungle gyms for small and bigger kids. On top of this, they sometimes have special events in the grass area, so it's worth keeping an eye out for those.
This is a really nice neighborhood park. There's a playground and a basketball court, and while there are often other people there, it never seems too crowded. It's gated with a large field, which is nice for bringing your dog and people are good about picking up after their dogs here.
I sometimes stop here with my toddler on our way to the grocery store. The playground usually isn't crowded so there's usually a swing available & I don't have to rush him down the slide because of bigger kids behind him waiting for their turn like at some of the busier parks. We LOVE that the teeter-totter has 2 seats on each side - it makes out easier to balance out 2 kids of different sizes and means more kids can use it at a time!
What do you see when you go back to where you grew up? The changes? Or what is in your mind's eye? This is a small neighborhood park. Tall lights, benches around the sides. Multiple shade trees, some older, some new, along the sides of the park, create paths, shady nooks, also near protected play areas. Combined jungle gym equipment for climbing, dome steps, rings, turbo chute slides, small swings. Other separate swings, 4 separate B-Ball hoops, at the other end. A place for CPD soccer. An improvised platform stage for Shakespeare in the park. A Bank of America sponsored big screen for outdoor movies. A small flower garden outside but near the same small field house, now air conditioned. There my friends and I played ping-pong, chess. Clean boys and girls bathrooms on either side. Previously, outside was a volleyball net, heavily used. All simpler separate equipment. Teeter-totter, parallel bars, slide, merry-go-round on one side. On the other, Washtenaw side, full-court B-Ball. No soccer then. At the other end a softball diamond. CPD summer team competition. Not trees, bushes along the Gunnison fence, wooden benches where grandparents sat watching their kids. Safety swings for little children, sandbox, monkey bars, another merry-go-round. Hop-scotch rectangle. So many kids from many of the local schools. Everyone came here. It was always busy. It was referenced in a column in the Amundsen log. In winter, part of the park that naturally pooled when it rained, was flooded for ice-skating. No allowed. A safe place for everyone. For all ages. Monitored. Horse-play was discouraged. Folks either behaved or were asked to leave. It had everything, at that time. And for years. Tech and equipment change, improve. Areas change. Needs change. New features, some different, many similar, all work for this neighborhood. Now even more family-friendly. Safe. Well-lit. I can see both places. Past and present. Gross Park. A great place for kids, for you, for everyone. I hope you enjoy it.
I have a special interest in this otherwise undistinguished park. The Midsommer Flight theater company presents several performances of its annual "Shakespeare in the park" production here. It's close to my apartment and has a Divvy Bike dock across the street. So it's a natural for me to visit this park at least once every summer. There's a very small field house that is hardly anything to write home about except for two things: a the Park District employee who works there is very friendly and welcoming, b the bathrooms are actually quite clean; cleaner in fact, than the stinking bathrooms at Millennium Park! If there is one complaint I have, it's not because of the park, but because it lies in the flight path of O'Hare. The noise from the jets make hearing a play difficult at times.
Cute little park. Nothing super unique but in a lovely Chicago neighborhood off the brown line
Small neighborhood park with a large children's jungle gym/swing set, basketball court, and large open playing field that is used in the spring and summer for a children's soccer league.
