Granville State Forest

Story

Granville State Forest is a Massachusetts state park located in the towns of Granville and Tolland in the southern Berkshire Hills along the state's southern border with Connecticut. The park is managed by the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR). It is adjacent to Connecticut's Tunxis State Forest.DescriptionThis area was once the Tunxis Native American tribe's hunting and fishing grounds. After discovery by English pioneer Samuel Hubbard in 1749 much of it was converted to open pasture and farmland. Under protection, the forest is regenerating with typical northern conifers and hardwoods. The Hubbard River drops 450ft in 2.5mi, forming pools and waterfalls as it passes over various rock formations.Activities and amenitiesCamping: Granville offers a camping area with accessible restrooms and shower facilities. Camping season is from late-May through mid-October. Camping is available only at designated sites and no wilderness camping is allowed. There are a limited number of sites available for RVs up to 35 feet long. There are no hook-ups or trailer waste station. Trails: Trails may be used for hiking, walking, horseback riding, mountain biking, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing. The forest also offers fishing and restricted hunting.

One of the best Camping sites I been to.nn1: Nice sitesn2: Nice restroomsn3: Nice trails and small ponds aroundn4: Friendly staff and police patrollingn5: Quite hours enforced from 10pm to 7amn6: Dog friendlyn7: Fire pit and common bbq grill area
It is my great privilege and joy to live adjacent to this magical place. A fully thriving natural ecosystem, it's a beautiful example of a foothills biome. The Hubbard River runs through this terrain, it is beautiful and dynamic in all seasons. Some of the most beautiful wild hiking, as well as curated trails in southwest Hampden County.nnHere live Moose, White Tail Deer, Black Bear, Fisher Cats, Bald Eagles, Barred Owls, Red Foxes, Eastern Coyotes Coyotes/Grey Timber Wolf naturally occurring hybrid, myriad species of mammals, reptiles and amphibians. This forest is a nature lovers' refuge, a scientific thinkers' and mycology enthusiasts' paradise!nnIf you visit, please remember this forest is a unified being with a Mycorrhizal Network that has an a very old and established relationship with the forest. Like I said, Magical!
Very peaceful, lots of hiking trails. there is a public bbq grill available and picnic tables at a the Bahre Pond location
A great place to unwind and detox from hectic work and hustle and bustle.nWe arrived late, checked in, very helpful at headquarters. . He even brought the wood we bought$7 to our car. I've read in reviews they do that to check if you have alcohol prohibited and they will ask you to leave if you do have any.nIf you're camping to party, this is NOT for you.n22 campsites. Some on the side of the quiet road, but most on off road, we chose a site near the camp trail for hiking, it was fabulous, quiet.nThe bathrooms/showers were a very quick walk. Showers were SO HOT! Bathroom's clean.nnPotable water outside. Big huge restaurant quality sink to clean your dishes in.nnBear boxes at every site that when checking in,headquarters they will tell you to absolutely use them. Maybe a bit overkill on the warning, but I wasn't taking any risks and everything fit in there perfectly.nAlso told not to leave anything with scent or food in your car because a bear can damage the car.nHooting owls at night.nnHiking trails were an easy/ moderate... Lead to a small waterfall that poured into a pool. Signs everywhere for no jumping off the rocks or swimming. But I'm very sure people swim here.nI feel like this campground is geared more to adults that are trying to unwind, but there were families with kids and they were awesome. They all were playing outdoor games and enjoying the outside.nQuiet time is 10:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. and everyone abided it.nFire pits in each site.nSome sites have a drop off behind them, not dangerous, but if you have little ones I would be cautious.nI look forward to visiting again next year
So absolutely beautiful. Very nicely maintained. Hiking paths are perfect. I loved hiking here!
