Planning our 2nd trip arriving Sept 4th, 2021 for 6 days. Our previous trip was fantastic with Lydia and Steve, Very accommodating and helpful with our 1st trip to Gow Bush Kon. So-we are back and excited to fish Gowganda Lake. For those fishermen out there you will enjoy this lake, No-not a fish every cast you still have to work at it but the quality is there. Going to try for lake trout also this time. So, check out this camp. A very clean and simple stay--away from the madness of other lakes and camps. Peace and quiet---oh yeah!!! Excellent camp for the whole family, friends, avid hunters and Anglers. Fantastic hosts that are very knowledgeable and will make your stay memorable. The hosts know every backroad and lake better than any map book out there. By far the BEST CAMP in Gowganda. Can't wait to return
My fishing buddys and I came to this lodge with a decent knowledge of the area for a week in September...1st issue we had was lodge owner had no problem putting us and our vehicles in places they didn't belong. 2nd issue was it was -5 all week and he called us "girls" because we wanted the oil furnace on. 3rd he refused to admit he was wrong when he suggested a backroad lake that was so rough we were lucky to get our trucks and trailers back. Lake and town are great, stay away from this lodge.
The trip was my second to Gow-Bush-Kon. My cabin was perfectly acceptable. It was a one bedroom with a double bed and single bunk beds. I requested a microwave as there wasn't one in the room when I arrived and the very next day it was there without delay. This trip was in a cabin with shared washrooms. I was a little nervous about this at first, but worked out just fine. The washrooms are clean with hot & cold running water in the sink and shower - again, exactly what's necessary. The fishing was good. Not as good as my first trip here, but its early spring in the north, you never know what your going to find when you get there - I was there May 24 and the ice-out was only 10 days prior.. I never went a day without fish, though. A good number of smallmouth Bass and Pickerel Walleye. The best thing about Gow-Bush-Kon though has got to be Steve & Lydia. I had the unfortunate experience of having my truck break down about 45 mins from the lodge halfway through my week. After getting tow, Steve wouldn't hear of me getting a taxi - he arrived to pick me up 45 mins after getting off the phone with him. He also offered to drive me into town the hour and 15 mins to pick up the truck. I found my own means and they repeatedly said 'you didn't have to do that. We would have taken you'. And then would have nothing to do with my offer of some extra money for the extra service. They said it wasn't 'extra' service, just service they would do for any client. What could have been a vacation wrecker turned out to be just a little inconvenience. What more to be said about a great place with such wonderful hosts. Go and enjoy their hospitality - you won't regret it!
