Free Bird is a hidden gem of the Richmond food scene. Its dishes are all delicious, though its award-winning chicken sandwich is unquestionably the standout. They have happy hour with $2 a shuck oysters and many small sandwich dishes. They offer classic brunch dishes as well as some unique ones, such as fried chicken ramen which I plan to try, from 7am as well. The service is always friendly. The place is clean, with many television screens for you to catch a game or watch the news. Great date night and friend catchup spot!
Nice place with ample seating. The menu is small which isn't a bad thing but I would have liked a few more options. The tavern burger was amazing and fries were great too. Our server was hilarious and really made us enjoy our stay. No diet pop options which was a negative as well I think they were just out and usually do have diet pop We ate here after a long travel day and left happy
It’s not even 3 and there’s already a drunk dude talking about love, politics, music, and what not, but it just adds to the atmosphere lol. The fry bread with the dip was very nice. Crispy on the outside and dense inside. Oysters aren’t the biggest but they were good enough. The fried chicken and waffles was the highlight. I tasted honey mustard and sour cream in the batter which was pretty dang special. Honestly did not expect that. Will return with family for sure.
Very nice bar with breakfast lunch and dinner also available. Nice choice of wines and whiskys. Breakfast was very good and I enjoyed it too much. THE USUAL is a breakfast with scrambled eggs toast sausages bacon and crisp potato wedges really yumm.... Vegetarian options: Vegetarian ramen and vageterian omelet and vageterian sandwitches and lots of sides.
It’s a good place in a good location! I like their food and happy hour menu is decent. I love dirty fries, ordered that three times and always loved it. Richard is a great waiter and I really enjoy talking to him and getting served by him. It’s usually not busy so that’s good too.
Had to go with the famous chicken burger and was not disappointed. I almost did the Appy special with the mini sliders but maybe next time. All the food looked great coming out of the kitchen. Great beer and wine selection and the happy hour beer was a great deal. Highly recommended reservations because of the reduced capacity with covid. Vaccine check and masks of course so be ready at the door with your cards
Free bird offers an interesting comfort food type of menu. You won’t find a typical continental list of dishes but that’s precisely what makes it stand out. Their chicken is tender and moist with the right touch of crispness and a southern twist. Their sliders biscuit briskets were tasty and quite filling. They tasted home made. The restaurant has a nice atmosphere with a pub-like feel to it, casual and laid back. The staff are nice. We’ll definitely come back.
Happy Hour 3 to 6pm daily. $1 per oyster, $5 beer and $10 for 2 tasty fired chicken tacos at a hotel restaurant. This is great value! We came here at 3pm on weekend. The restaurant is located at the corner of Alderbridge Way and Westminster Hwy in Richmond. It is not hard to find but a bit far away from skytrain station. There are pay parking on the street and at the Executive Hotel. The place was not busy at time we came and happy hour was just started. We ordered a dozen of oysters for $12. It is a great deal. Drinks are cheap too. Only $5 for beer, red or white wine. We also ordered the Spicy Sliders which is 3 mini fried chicken burger and they are really good. Another good food on happy hour menu is their Fried Chicken Tacos. You can also order from the regular menu. We have shared the Pulled Pork Mac & Cheese, wings and Shepherd’s Pie. The place has a good vibe and service is great too. There are not many happy hour places in Richmond and I will come back for more.
Our first time to try their Happy Hour on a Saturday and they did not disappoint. Their food and drinks were great and reasonably priced. I particularly liked the Chicken Tacos and Fish Po Boy. The Oysters were a bit small though. Our service was great too and even took our group photo and extended our reservation. We will surely be back here when we’re in Richmond.
My husband and I ordered the Brisket platter for two, and a dirty fries, via a delivery app. The brisket platter cost $49 and the fries were $14. When we received this order, we were dismayed to see that the size of the fries was larger than the size of the "platter," and that the brisket portions provided for $49 weren't even sufficient to feed two. Worse yet, when I tasted the brisket, it tasted like the meat had been freezer-burned at some point. When we called the restaurant for clarification, we were told that the reason why the platter was $49 was because we got two small biscuits, a couple of pickles and some coleslaw on the side, and that the restaurant had already "thrown in extra fries." They were not prepared to apologize or do anything to help us rectify our concerns. This experience was beyond disappointing, and as frequent take-out diners and foodies, I was left dissatisfied with both the quality and quantity of this order. I rarely write scathing restaurant reviews because most restaurants that make an error make the attempt to correct their mistakes, and usually it's not an issue of quality *and* quantity, which is the case here. Save your money. Eat or order take out/delivery elsewhere. I'm confident that you'd have received better food for your dollar at a chain family restaurant than at this place. The food at Freebird is poorly prepared, overpriced, and a complete waste of your time.
