We saw the good reviews and we like finding "hole in the wall" gems. The missus and I decided to give Paul's Kitchen a try. It's true the prices are relatively lower but we found the food average at best. The curried beef brisket was not very flavorful and the spam with eggs & toast was just ordinary.
This place is phenomenal! With fresh, delicious and huge portions it's one of the best hidden gems within richmond. The staff is extremely. Although the space is a little tight, the amazing food and large options takes the restaurant to a huge level.10/10 would go againFood: 5/5
Tried this reataurant on my recent trip to Vancouver. Keep in mind that this restaurant takes only cash so be sure to have some with you. I had the beef with the pepper sauce. For the price you pay of under $15, the beef serving were more than generous and it also includes a drink and the free soup as well. The staff were more than helpful to me and the taste of food was awesome especially the sauce. Truly a hidden gem!
Updated Jan2023 Cost up a bit due to inflation but still cheaper than surrounding Always hot fresh HK style breakfast never fails. Price is always fair will always come for my quick morning breakfast. You can’t find compete breakfast under $7 anywhere but here! There broth is real pork bone soup. Not Instant noodles powder. Update 28OCT2022 Tomato beef rice!! Nice hot quick great taste!!
Hidden gem serving simple, no-frills HK cafe eats. You'll find classic breakfast and cafe options at cheap prices for good food. It won't be the best thing you've ever eaten but it's 100% bang for your buck and comforting food. So for the price in Vancouver much less, 5 stars for Paul's Kitchen. We got a satay beef instant noodle and the pan-fried pork chop with curry sauce over rice. Both had tender pieces of meat and the curry sauce they have is very reminiscent of the true HK cafe flavour. The food is also served in disposable take out containers. The ladies working the front were nice and efficient. The place has a bit of a grungy vibe but I think that was part of the experience.
We ordered the milk tea to go. We told them we did not want sugar and they still gave us sugar on the side. This meant they ignored our request. For the authentic milk tea, usually people would make it for customers and customers can request customization e.g. less sugar/ more milk. However, they put the bags of sugar with the stir stick on the table for customers instead. This meant they did not want to make the milk tea for customers. Also, the cashier put the receipt on the plate so I put cash on top of it. Then she left my cash on the plate and put my change on the counter. Normally, the cashier would take the customer's money first before giving back the change so that the change can be put on the plate. They made me pick up the change on the counter instead of getting it from the plate. This defeated the purpose of the plate and against industry standards. P.S. The taste of the tea was stronger than the milk. We will not return because they did not serve the drink in the right way and they did not respect customers.
Price: 10/10, Food: 5/10, Service: 9/10, Atmosphere: 8/10 This is the kind of shop where OG HKers hang. They know the owner. This is the hawker - OG HK exp. Price is great - can’t complaint. The problem I have with food is - it tastes good but comes in foam containers. And I can clearly tell that that parts of the foam has melted. I ate it and idk if I’ll die of cancer soon. The drinks comes in foam cup too. Service is great - agreed to add sauce whenever we asked. The atmosphere is just like an old diner. So you get the feel.
I've been coming for many years since the owners were at Parker Place. I come back for nostalgia's sake. You get what you paid for in terms of food quality. It's the service that I have a problem with. The nice owners hired a middle aged lady that is quite rude. She was chasing customers out as soon as they look like they're about to finish eating, or will talk loudly about you to embarrass/chase you out. She tried to serve me the wrong breakfast, and of course I deny it saying I ordered a macaroni in soup. When she brings the correct item over, she made a passive aggressive comment about it.
It took a little bit to get seated but the ladies working there were sweet and accommodating. They took down my order first so I didn’t need to wait to get my food after I got seated. The prices can’t be beat! Reminds me of Hong Kong.Recommended dishesPreserved Veg & Shredded Pork Noodle
