The best gym I've been to! Everyone is positive and helpful! Kids stuffchildcare is the best, shout-out to Lulu and all the other wonderful staff, my kids love you all and we are beyond thankful for your hard work! All the staff in each department decorated a door and have a contest going on ! So fun. This is the "kids stuff" door!
I picked my 5 year old son up from the child play area and he could not stop talking about how much fun he had and the new friend teacher he made. Because of this young man he now wants to be a teacher and go to the be YMCA everyday! Thank you for making this an enjoyable first experience for him.
After being longtime anytime fitness members, we decided to get a Y membership because of childcare and the vast amenities for kids/families. As a parent, it can be difficult to trust strangers with your children. I have to give so much credit and appreciation to the childcare team at the forest lake YMCA. From day 1 they were friendly, welcoming, and our girls were comfortable being dropped off to play. Our oldest 2.5 years has so much fun playing and doing crafts/coloring. Cannot remember every person’s name, however, Lulu especially Lulu, Tayler, Kaycie not sure on spelling, and a few others have been absolutely amazing and make the environment as good as it is!! Huge thanks to them for their smiling faces, patience with all the children as well as their friendly conversation when we drop our girls off each time.
I have had a membership since pre-covid. I am finally writing this review because things have gone so down hill since we started our membership. The first year at the Y, we loved! Towels, open until 10pm, and most people I talk to go here for the sauna and pool. Classes are fun if you can make it. My family received an email from the y when the state shut down, notifying us everything was closed until further notice. We got another email later, asking members more than once to keep memberships open, and paid in full, since they would raise your rates if you quit and then rejoined. We kept our membership paid in full because we had friends who worked there, and we thought we were supporting them. Then, they fired most of those people without any notice. They shut down the lino location. By the way, here we are, 3 years later, and our membership fee was raised anyway. So that was completely dishonest. Every hardship from the shut down has been burdened on the members, even though we paid to keep the doors open. The worst part of it all, they have not gone back to normal hours 3 YEARS LATER! They have also completely discontinued towel service, the sauna seems like it is often shut down for repairs cuz teenagers are putting junk on the sauna rocks and breaking stuff. The weightlifting equipment is often full and busy since the hours are shortened. The other day a group of boys came into the sauna and started puffing an ecig. My family has emailed corporate and sent more than one kind complaint, and nothing has changed...or barely been acknowledged. If there was another place in town with a sauna that opened, I would most definitely switch. Eventually, that day will probably come. I hope someone reads this and actually takes it into consideration. Whenever I talk to other members or employees it's only negative criticism for the Y and their management. Sad but true. Thanks.
If you're looking to lift weight go somewhere else. Every week there is a different machine broken or our of order. Limited amount of available benches and Squat racks. If you aren't interested in lifting weights then have fun.
This location does a horrible job of keeping their equipment in good working order. I complained about a footstrap missing on their matrix bike for 6 months! Now there is another bike with a broken strap that I informed them of a month ago, it's still broken. I was told by numerous people it was "on order". Then found out after asking another person they are actually all laying in a drawer! He replaced the strap but it's for the wrong foot, so it doesn't fit correctly. Also, they recently moved their cardio machines around and now they are so close together youre on top of one another.
Pretty good place. Some of the instructors at the front desk are friendly some are not that inviting. Other than that its pretty cool
They do not allow open swimming to the community must be a member or with a member and the website says different very miss leading.
If u are looking to lift weights, avoid this place . Countless underage kids sitting on the equipment taking selfies and texting most of the time. When speaking with staff they say there is not enough of them to supervise, as the two at the front desk were alone and surfing the internet. After this occurring multiple times now i will cancel and go elsewhere.
I had membered here pre covid and again when they reopened. 4 weeks ago my employment was phased out and out of work. I wanted to do a membership hold until I regained employment. The sales supervisor opted to issue a full refund on current month of $73 and said it would be mailed to me following a 10 day processing time. Its been 16 days, no refund. I have requested status of refund multiple times and I am avoided with no responses. In the meantime, I regained employment and asked same sales supervisor of reinstating my membership. I was told I would be getting my prior refund in the mail and would need to be charged right away $36 to carry me from 2/28 to 3/14 and would be charged again on 3/15 for a full month of $73. Issues have been from point of renewing membership this week I was locked out of the Y app that allows me to book pool time which is the only reason I go to the Y. The same sales supervisor was and is aware I am locked out and that I cannot make pool reservations myself. She refuses to in the interim of solving lock out issue make two reservations for me. So I am forced to pay for membering and am prohibited in usage . She has advised her staff to not make bookings for me knowing Im locked out. She calls it a level playing field with other members. The other side of this is the Y app is ran through a third party service for the Y, the Y has been unwilling to contact their third party app service to correct my issue and have told me I need to. All I have is website contact from a popup that shows when attempting to login for reporting an issue. Its been three days, I have a ticket # and have not heard back since. I have continued to ask about my refund with no reply and am now because the supervisors disconnect and unwillingness to provide needed customer service am disputing the $36 and lock out of the Y app. I was given a document that shows intent of refund for the $73 and am placing claim with creditcard to reverse charge since they have not sent me a refund and have also done this with the $36 renewal since Im not able to book pool times due to lock out of App. The problem is the Y has shown a culture of not knowing what customer service is or should be through bad leadership controlling those who do know and want to help. My encounters have shown, there is strong supervisory control to do as she feels is first protecting her choices or lack of and not maintaining existing membership and growing it through positive helpful customer service. The behavior of not providing legitimate customer service is dishonest and reflects poorly on the Y as a organization. I was a multi decade member at west st paul Y before they closed and switched to Forest Lake a few years ago. One supervisor is clueless on the Y's founding values and does not understand what customer service is.. its solving problems and making things right with service. They can refund my money and end this. Its too bad I need the swim time twice a week and clearly Im not valued as part of their member base.
