Story

Located in the heart of Downtown Nanaimo, Food KOMA is a new International Take-Out Restaurant, serving up unique and mouth watering authentic dishes from around the globe. Whether you're hungry at lunch, dinner or late night, we are open to serve up some delicious eats and put you into a koma !


Home of the first taro fry – derived from the taro root its a creative, healthy alternative to the potato or yam. As the taro nicely crisps up, its lighter and less greasy, served along side an all-fresh ingredients, in house made Curry Mayo. Finally Nanaimo has a treat other than Nanaimo Bars, that is a healthy alternative to conventional food.

Koma’s vision into the culinary world is taking traditional dishes such as the Shawamara (Chicken or Beef and Lamb) from the Middle East, Butter or Tandoori Chicken from India, Salad Rolls made with Pork, Prawn, Chicken, Beef or Veggie from Vietnam and we took the classic Noodle Box, gave it a flavor blast and composing it with fresh Egg Noodles, Veggies, Herbs and Sauces that are a house secret. Many of the other in house made sauces and dishes have top-secret elements to them, and are kept a secret because we know a good thing is something to behold.

You may think, now that’s a variety, but wait there’s more! You can get an all Beef Haute Dog with toppings or just 6 dollars. All of the food is in most peoples price range, and the quality of the food is top notch. The staff ensures all of the food is properly labeled and rotated. It has all the class of a 5 star kitchen for 5 to 10 dollar prices; it is a great bang for your buck. The customers are in for a real experience, a must try on the menu is the BBQ Duck. Have it in a sub, or make it a poutine. The rich flavor compliments any vessel you put it on.

Whenever you’re craving food, food KOMA is open all day and late night, ‘til 3 am from Thursday to Saturday. Located in the heart of Downtown Nanaimo at 165-B Commercial Street, just down the road from Corner Lounge, its an establishment you wont miss while walking by. From the outside windows looking in, the sleek interior filled with floor to ceiling stainless steel appliances and the neon sign, draws your attention while the smell of the food being prepared draws you inside. The food is mouth watering and satisfying you’ll be hooked before you know it and want to try the whole menu, maybe more than one item at a time.
