Five Guys

I checked out Five Guys in my continuing quest to find the best milkshakes in the city. They have a selection of flavours, this time I went with regular chocolate. I was a bit disappointed because their burgers definitely look worthwhile, made with care and attention. The milkshake however was pretty much what you’d get at any fast food joint. Thick enough but lacking in chocolate flavour and very salty. People who eat at McDonald’s might like this, but I really don’t. I may go back for a burger but nope to milkshakes!

Great food and the nicest staff. Case in point: today I ordered a cheeseburger, little fries (yes, they call it a "little" size, probably to shame big strong American men from ordering it, but I am a big strong Canadian man confident enough not to be cowed by such nonsense), and asked if they could mix mayo, ketchup, mustard and relish together for a sort of burger sauce. Yes! Did it work? Not particularly; five guys buns are so soft that it didn't like the onslaught of all that moisture. But the point is that the counter person was thrilled to accommodate an odd request and even wanted to discuss it afterwards. I like that.

Wonderful staff. Five Guys is never "fast food", you always have to wait because they cook to order, however we waited for around 15 mins and although we didn't complain the nice lady serving called me over, apologized for the delay, and refunded all my money and then served us the best burgers and fries we have had for years. We will be back!

Great burgers with friendly staff. The buns could be a bit more sturdy, but overall they've nailed it.
