I cannot say enough about this restaurant. We had a very serious appt at the hospital and came down from Belgrade Lakes. We asked them where to go for dinner and they recommended Fish Bones Grill. First of all the host on the phone was delightful and said please come over we will save you a table on a Friday night!! Secondly, Liz our server was OUTSTANDING. She was warm and friendly and knowledgeable about the food. Now let’s talk about the food! The Best I have had in Maine. I relocated back to Maine after a career in the hotel and restaurant business in the northwest. I was blown away by the food, the cocktails and the service. The atmosphere in the restaurant was warm and cozy and EVERYONE was on their game with smiles and service! I am so HAPPY I found you all. I don’t mind traveling the 50 min and already planning my birthday dinner there in May.nKeep up the great work, I love hearing the chef calling out the tickets in the open kitchen. It was music to my ears. The detail to the dishes and the quality of the products did not go unnoticed!!! Please know you are truly the best!
Four people and four different dishes- everyone enjoyed their meal. Flavors were sublime generally- . I have enjoyed their onion soup, but a spoonful of the seafood chowder gave me a new first choice appetizer- delicate and delicious. And next time I will order the haddock sandwich~ a perfect choice according to one of us! Service was impeccable. Our server was so helpful and personable, that she made a great difference in our time at Fish Bones. Presentation was well done, and added much to our choices. I would nearly say a deserved 5 star experience, but not quite. Nothing was hot. And several dishes would have been so much better if they weren't luke warm. Coffee was hot, but by that time I needed it to be, to warm my hands! The space is beautiful and so well designed, but it is an old brick mill- never meant to be warm and cozy. As an elder, I do feel the cold more than many I expect, but I was uncomfortable. The wait for our late lunch was long, and probably due to several large parties- .I would suggest a basket of rolls/bread would have helped. We will certainly go back, a bit wiser next time.
This was such a neat place. The food was DELISH and our server was super sweet! I was in town for work and my coworker and I were looking for someplace to have dinner and a bunch of people suggested Fish Bones. So glad we went. Cozy and relaxing atmosphere. I also got a spicy black raspberry margarita that was so good!
It was an interesting experience. So finding it was hard. Google maps found the parking lot great but there is no large signage so while facing Mill no 6 head to the far left and you will see one understated sign. The restaurant is basically one large room. It had hints of friendly and upscale at the same time. The menu was not extravagant and there were affordable options. The one thing the menu had going for it was a whole lot of items we wanted to try. We decided to try the small plates and soups and salads side of the menu on this trip. We ordered the lobster Rangoons, mussels and chorizo, seafood chowder, and the beet and goat cheese salad. The food all arrived at the same time. So not a fine dining experience more a family food crush. But each dish was distinct, flavorful, and exceptionally presented. The balance of price versus quality and I am going to go on the side of get here quick because the quality was exceptional for the price. The bread was not exceptional and was run of the mill. The beet salad was a disappointment given the name. But the mixed greens were fantastic. No iceberg our romaine. There were two types of lettuce I have never eaten and they were both tender and crisp. The mussels and chorizo was a bit spicy. The dish came just warm not hot but the mussels were perfectly cooked. They were tender and clean. The broth was more like a soup. The bread was perfect for sopping up the broth. The rich tomatoes and chorizo sauce conveyed hints of rosemary and onion. It was spicy, sweet, and earthy all in perfect harmony. The Rangoons were more like lobster wontons. The filling was interesting. Not sure I tasted lobster but there was a lot of ginger and garlic. They were served warm, crisp and no hint that they had been sitting around. The seafood soup was stellar. It was cold when it arrived and my wife mentioned it to the waiter and he immediately took it away and brought a hot one. There were large scallops and shrimp and potato. It was creamy and robust. A little more leisure and this place would be a fine dining destination. Someone needs to check food temperature in the kitchen but other than that each dish was a hit. We will be back to sample the other side sometime soon.
We have just returned from a leisurely dinner at Fish Bones. The meal presentation was paced nicely - not hurried at all. Our server, Elisabeth, was professional and her genuine smile made us feel very welcome. Our meal began with shared lobster Rangoon, a house salad, followed by our main dishes which were scallops on risotto and mixed seafood grill. We finished with coffees and shared a vanilla crème brûlée.nnThe meal was ample but not overfilling. Our server paced the presentation very well.nnMy only wish would be for a dipping oil rather than the attractive balls of butter. I could have asked, but did not. In the future, I’ll remember to request dipping oil.
