Our Story!
15 years ago Ric and Elsa stumbled onto a dilapidated 6 acre parcel of property in Qualicum Bay just off Horne Lake road and about 15 minutes north of the town of Qualicum Beach. What a find!
They worked tirelessly, and still do to this day, to turn this sadly neglected piece of land into what is now a beautiful bevvy of diversified and sustainable agriculture. From flowers to fruit, vegetables and herbs, the property is teaming with healthy growth. The love of what they do shows in, what they produce, and how they produce it.
Combined with Elsa's undeniable talent as a professional pastry chef it completes a circle of fresh and delectable eats! Elsa's Atisan Bakery delicacies are prepared in a beautiful hand crafted Bakery, located in the center of there market garden, surrounded by flower beds, an orchard and seasonal vegetables.
Ric is a creative and talented builder! Their newly constructed and quaint farm stand, (Ric and Elsa's Farm Stand), is a delight to visit. Almost always stocked with farm fresh, organically grown produce, from early summer till fall. Don't forget to check the fridge!
Elsa trained as a chef at the Culinary Institute of Canada and studied agriculture at McGill University. Together Ric and Elsa make a knowledgeable and dynamic duo.
Now, not to forget Ziggy a super friendly black lab and cheeky Chia a wee Mexican rescue poochie, as the farms four legged foremen. I have to add that Ziggy is definitely in change or PR and Chia is certainly in charge of security. Although Chia is also super friendly don't let her tiny size fool you..... she is most adept at policing the property and chasing out "unwelcome creature" freeloaders.
Elsa and Ric's farm (Safe Haven Farm) continue to contribute to their micro-community's charm, providing fresh, delicious and responsibly grown farm produce and healthy baked goods.
