I’ve had a great experience at the YMCA. The facility is clean, well-maintained, and offers a wide variety of equipment and programs for all ages. The staff are friendly, welcoming, and always willing to help. I especially appreciate the positive community atmosphere and the affordable membership options. The fitness classes are well organized, and the pool and gym areas are usually kept in excellent condition. Overall, the YMCA is a great place for staying active, meeting people, and supporting a healthy lifestyle.
Random fire alerts and asking people to exit premises and gather in the open in heavy rain with no arrangements whatsoever. This could happen at any time apparently so be prepared to have a good workout ruined right in the middle for no apparent reason other than ‘someone pushed the alarm’.nnEdit: I just wanted to clarify other than that the staff is really nice and polite. No problems on that front.
The ECEs here are AMAZING. My child has type one diabetes and they've gone above and beyond to make sure he's healthy and happy. They're amazing at communicating with me for any issues.nI also love that the meals are healthy.nnThere's a long waitlist, but I'm glad we were able to wait it out. Worth it.
We used family passes to take our son to the pool this weekend. The changerooms were clean, lockers were available bring your own lock and we had a lot of fun. However, there was a young female lifeguard acting like a warden of a jail. She kept telling parents or kids how to play, don't do this, can't do that, etc. I would understand if they were being boisterous, but nothing was warranting the behavior. My kid was walking up and down the long stairs to the pool the ones with colours before getting right in and she said something to him about how he was playing on the stairs. I was on the other side of the wall swimming back and forth across while he followed me from the shallow stair side, I'm not sure exactly what she said to him but my husband was with my son on the side with the stairs in close proximity as my son went back and forth with me. She just seemed to be the fun police. I was kind of weary about playing with my son when she came around because I didn't know she was going to try and say something to us. I understand that safety is paramount, but you need to let people have the fun that they paid for. Another reason for three stars is that if you don't have a membership, it's $16 per adult and $7.50 per child to swim for 2hrs. Pretty pricey considering a family membership is so expensive. The Whitby Rec Center is less than $10 a person without a membership by comparison.nnMy last reason for three stars is that the pool had an absurdly high amount of chlorine in it. I can still taste chlorine in my mouth/lungs 24 hours later. I would reckon that they must keep their chlorine level above 7, essentially a chemical soup. My husband and I were both battling itchy eyes just sitting in the toddler circle area with our son.nnOverall, my son did have fun and we would consider coming back if the prices for single use were more reasonable. But it's not reasonable to pay $40+ dollars for 2 hours of swimming and a membership just isn't affordable.
4.5.. Staff, classes, and fitness facility are great. What more can you ask for! I only hope the steam room and hot tub were not working so often and more evening classes.
