Dunbar Memorial Preschool

Story

Dunbar Memorial Preschool is a play-based preschool located within (but not run by) the Dunbar Community Centre. It is led by two warm and caring teachers, Vanessa and Karima. Dunbar Memorial Preschool is a Parent Involvement Preschool, which means that while parents are invited to volunteer in the classroom, they are not required to do so. The following programs are available within the preschool:

Mixed 3's and 4's Class:
Monday to Thursday, 9:15am-12:15pm
Your child can attend 2-4 days per week

Mixed 3's and 4's Outdoors Class:
Wednesdays and Thursdays 1-2:30pm
Your child can attend one or both days. If your child attends the morning preschool class, they will stay and eat lunch in the classroom before attending outdoor class (i.e. their day will run from 9:15am-2:30pm).

Drop Off 2's:
Fridays 9:15-11am

We have LOVED being a part of Dunbar Memorial preschool for the past 5 years and will be sad to leave. We moved into the neighbourhood not knowing many people and found Dunbar Preschool to be a great community where we have met many life long friends both kids and adults!. The play-based programming at Dunbar preschool has provided an excellent foundation for our children to transition into kindergarten and most importantly it has provided them with the understanding that learning is fun!! The bright, big open space that the preschool is located in allows for many fun indoor activities on rainy days such as hockey, bike riding, etc. And, being located in the community centre is also a bonus since we have taken advantage of the open gym after preschool let's out and the drop-in child minding when needed!
Dunbar Memorial Preschool has enriched the lives of our whole family. We were new to Vancouver, and found a welcoming community of kids and parents here. The teachers are excellent and our son is always happy to go to preschool. T he setting in the community centre means that we have regular contact with other members of the local community. I was nervous about the parent-participation aspect but have found that I've benefited enormously and learned a lot from the experience.
