I am visiting for Terminus. Had to order the pickle fries. A new tradition since last year when I came down. I ordered the chicken parm burger with a side of pickle fries the next night. I ate about 3/4 of it, and had to box the rest. The portions are very good. I love the staff and their unique styles. Very quick service, even when super busy. There is not a lot of seating, which is disappointing, but I understand it gets quite crowded, and is already difficult to navigate. There are stairs to get downstairs to the bar, however I did see a few wheelchairs, so there is some way for them to get in, but I'm not sure on the specifics as I did not see an elevator. The first bathroom has stalls, but you have to either straddle the toilet, or squish off to one side to be able to get in and close the door. Very awkward. Not good for mobility challenged.
I love this place for the staff, the atmosphere, and the killer entertainment. I have literally never had a bad time at Dickens. plus the pizza is amazing Food: 5/5
Great staff great atmosphere, but the kitchen had an off night. It’s a basement with an older crowd but it’s clean and comfortable. I went to see a big band pretty good sight lines.Food: 1/5
Whether it's a band, game night, movie night, whatever your reason for going to Dickens, it's always fantastic! Staff is awesome, atmosphere is great! The food has never let me down. Follow them for events and come on out to something if you never have before. I guarantee you will be back :Food: 5/5
Food's always tasty and fair priced. The staff is super fantastic, and make you feel at home. Not to mention they are very actively a safe space and work to be so for all individuals! Very down to earth feel with lots of really awesome events that range from movie nights, poetry nights, burlesque, drag, and more! It's probably my most frequented spot in Calgary for these reasons lol Vegetarian options: They have vegetarian options for their burgers at no extra cost! Wheelchair accessibility: There is elevator access available for anyone needing to use it to get into the venue and the staff are very helpful!
Saw the Terminus Festival there and it was Fantastic!!!! Everyone was Awesome place is well-organized and staff are Amazing Food: 5/5
Love this for a perfect little grunge bar! The server we always encounter is always a treat to be around and she just vibes out! The shows this place supports is also super inclusive and expansive! Definitely recommend coming to check out some events they host! Parking: Free street parking after a certain time!
By far my favourite drinking hole!!! They went above and beyond for me. My favourite band Madball did a show here and I brought in a massive painting and they got it signed for me. I am in tears from happiness and I hope they know how much I appreciate the staff that made this happenFood: 5/5
The poetry slam event here was AMAZING! But my goodness talk about grumpy servers and grungy atmosphere. Not my thing, I guess.Food: 3/5
I really like this venue. Its relative small, great for underground music! The stage is on the smaller size and so is the area around it but that never stopped people from having hell of time moshing :-. Staff is great and friendly. Sound can be hit/miss so bring earplugs. Parking is just around the corner. The one across the 9th ave is under construction so be aware. Bathrooms could be bigger, but i never had to wait. Its a great plays to come and enjoy some great metal shows. Never tried the food but the drinks are reasonably priced and the bartenders are fast and always friendly. Come and support some local and not so local bands. You'll have a great time!
