Good location for camping. You have to book in advance. Electricity connection is good. Bathrooms are fairly maintained. Walking 10 minutes trail to the beach. Price is around 50-60 cad per night. The only problem is that you can hear noise of passing train sometimes and noise of ongoing vehicle moving as it is close to the highway. Rest, we enjoyed a lot as we had a good group with us.
We went off season just for a bit of hiking and to see the water. Nice trails! Obviously quiet when we were there people-wise. You can hear traffic and sometimes the train, no surprise, but once you're by the water you won't notice anymore. Will definitely come back in warmer weather!
I hate to leave a low review because we love Ontario Parks but I wouldn’t recommend camping here. The pros: close to the city, no long drives. The cons: close proximity to the highway meant road noise all day long. But the icing on the cake goes to the train pulling its horn at all hours of the day & night. Definitely not peaceful, restful or like you’re in nature. Plus, no noise control or enforcement after hours. People partying in the middle of the road long after hours. We also went during a weekend and the beach/picnic area was over-run with day trippers. Site also had trash scattered upon checkin. The washrooms need renovating- the one and only sink was outside of the washroom and people left tissues everywhere instead of walking to the garbage behind them. Plus long line ups and very crowded for showers. The beach was OK, gravel and rocky. The park store was nice, had food, coffee, ice cream and things you may need for camping. Sadly won’t be returning to this provincial park.
The park itself is very nice. Staff were great, sites nice but the train and 401 noise is a lot. A suggestion may be to note this in the park description. For some families this can be tough with little ones as the train runs at least every hour and blows the horn everytime at the crossing. If people are aware of this they could better choose a site farther from the noise.
Randomly stopped here while passing through because we wanted to stick our feet into Lake Ontario. So glad we did! You need advanced reservations, but they were not too busy so the ranger helped us out on the spot. We drove down to parking area two and had a picnic lunch before walking the short distance down to the beach. What a great experience.
Good provincial park just outside Toronto. Good campgrounds. Few of the campsites are very small and no privacy. Major drawback at hilltop campground is train noise. Railway track is just outside the park and noise of train and its horn wakes you up every now and then in the night. Rest everything is good.
Me and my friends went camping here at the end of summer as one last hurrah before we all went off to uni, and it was so much fun. The camping grounds are well maintained, and the spots are more than big enough to get your car and tents on. It was only a 5 minute walk down to the beach from out camping spot which was one of the further away spots from the beach and it was super easy. The beach was lovely and refreshing, and was relatively snooty we went during the week on a regular day. The staff at the park shop were very polite and friendly, and even gave us good suggestions on where to hike.
Nice park...very noisy on hilltop because of trains and cars. Bring earplugs. The beach is super busy and nice. Sites for trailer were big. This park needs some work on pioneer house as well as the amphitheatre.
Not bad for a nearby provincial park. Lots of well treed or sunny sites for both tastes. I stayed in the Hilltop area with lots of shade, trees small critters and birds singing. It was very quiet otherwise, except for the sound of trains passing close by.
Darlington has been our go to for camping for 10 years! Good prices store has everything you need in a pinch. Pretty quiet and the facilities are good. If there are problems the Wardens are reachable and helpfull! Big recommend for first time campers!
