This is a nice place to camp with beautiful views. We made reservations for a camp site over the phone and payed with a card. Upon arrival there was someone in or spot. It was late, dark and getting ready to rain so we happened to find any empty spot to setup our tent. The next morning we went to the rangers station to inquire about or accommodations and it turned out to be a squatter at our designated area. They comped us a night at let us stay where we were. The park staff was very friendly and helpful. I would stay here again. Watch out for the Bison crossing the road.

Custer State Park is one of America's finest parks. It ranks with some of the best national parks. It is large and many varied. It has great wildlife viewing opportunities, some of the best in the country for antelope, bison, wild turkey and prairie dogs. The Needles Highway scenery is superb. The Iron Mountain Highway is very different but equally alluring. The vistas from Mount Coolidge are great. If you like to hike, the opportunities are numerous. The lodges are really nice and quite different from one another, thereby offering very different experiences.

This is one of the best state parks in America. The facilities are top notch, well maintained and clean. The staff goes above and beyond to help. I would highly recommend coming to the annual buffalo round-up. It’s an amazing experience.

Absolutely beautiful! We didn't even plan on driving through this park and I am so glad we did! The drive has a lot of curves and narrow one lane bridges and roads built right through the rock. Saw tons of buffalo, sometimes right on the side of the road. I only wish I had known of this park in advance to plan more time there.

We closed out the season and camped out at North Stockade. We were the crazy couple who slept in the pickup fashioned out to be a camper. We couldn't have been happier with the park rangers (huge shout out to Tricia) and their suggestions. We tend to travel outside of the season to avoid the rush of people. The weather was perfect our entire 5 night stay, albeit the cold which we expected. We visited every trail and highway possible, paid special attention to places that were suggested to us by the wonderful park staff. Thanks again! We will return again, hopefully soon.
