One of my best friends and fellow chefs, decided to eat dinner here on Saturday the 21st. It was a wonderful experience, to have farm-to-table offerings, that remained relatively true to their roots. Overall, we thought the meal was quite balanced, and seasonal. I was even offered sorbet that was not on the traditional sorbet menu, because of dairy restrictions. The wine that was suggested to my friend, was outstanding and paired wonderfully, from the oysters to the quail. I was also given a side of sweet potato coconut curry, with an intense flavor of cumin, that paired well with the porchetta dish. I would put this restaurant at the top of my list of places to experience in Iowa. Dietary restrictions: They had some beautiful offerings for dairy-free and gluten-free needs.
Cobble Hill Restaurant Layout/Vibe Rating - The restaurant from the outside gives the feeling of small and quaint. Once in, it’s much more extensive than anticipated. Low lighting and perfect for a special occasion in our case, our 18th wedding anniversary and my wife’s birthday I loved the entire layout and feel, from the front brick walls to the open kitchen in the back, where you could watch food prep underway. Customer Service Rating - Amazing! Steven or Stephen not sure how he spells it was fantastic! We were checked in with quickly, all staff was very knowledgeable, and checked in with us many times. Our table was wiped down after our appetizer, main dish, and we always had room. Top-notch for sure, and I can’t wait to have our next special occasion here. Food Rating - Oh my. We did a tuna and muscle appetizer. I can’t say enough about the food. We ordered the flat iron steak and halibut as our main dish. Everything was amazingly fresh, grade +++, and prepared to perfection. Overall our visit was amazing and made a special milestone very memorable. Thanks to all who served us at Cobble Hill, and especially Steven, our server :!
We had a lovely time meeting a friend for dinner here on recommendation! You can tell there’s a lot of care and pride that goes into the food and service here. Servers and staff are very knowledgeable about the menu and educate you on their farm to table menu and where they source all their food. We loved the intimate atmosphere and all the mismatched furniture and place settings. Definitely a menu for a more open palette as the selection is small and flavor pairings are very unique. I felt like the experience alone was worth the visit but would also like to return to try other items on the menu. They also took a lot of care with my partners nut allergy and made sure to adjust where needed to make sure we all felt good about what we were eating.
We visited 8/27/22. Amazing atmosphere, great food. Wait staff is courteous, knowledgeable, and my water glass never was empty. We ordered the duck and falafel meals - both were excellent. They have a full bar and outdoor seating too. Street parking or a couple ramps near by to park in.
Went to Cobble Hill for a fun night with my sister and my partner; and I was absolutely blown out of the water. It was a busy Tuesday night, but we received extremely knowledgeable & attentive service. Between the service, the ambiance, and the food - this may hands down be the best spot in town and then some!. Everything was so delightful I can’t wait until the next time I get to visit the amazing staff at Cobble Hill! P.S. I had the steak and Charcuterie Board, and both were more amazing than I could make on my own, and it takes a lot for me to admit defeat!
LOVED this place. A must go when in town. A bit pricey, but we'll worth it. Staff is very informed and the food is next level. We never had to ask for a water refill or say our candle was about to go out. Unbelievable. Our utensils were swapped out after every dish. The dishes were incredible. We finished the night with good conversation and coffee and desserts and didn't realize we were there 45 mins after closing. They never said a word and continued the amazing service. Bravo
This review maybe a bit jaded. We were a large group of eleven. No indoor seating was available so we were relegated to the outdoor patio. It is early evening July in Iowa with a heat wave warning. On our arrival while waiting for the rest of our party we enjoyed some delicious inspired cocktails. The bar has a good energy and the bartender was attentive, helpful and accommodating. High marks for these ladies. We then were seated on the patio and the hostess and staff were clearly aware of the less than favorable conditions. They tried to accommodate the discomfort by providing hand fans and wet napkins to place around the neck if so desired. The food was prepared to order and the wait staff was attentive though a bit slow at times. The food options were somewhat limited when it came to he entrees but there was an option for red meat, fish, vegetarian and fowl. Presentation when plating the food was well done. The food was fresh and delicious. I had a pork chop that was moist and cooked to a perfect temperature. The barbecued peas were a treat. My companions were complimentary to what they ordered. Desserts were well received and they too had attractive appearance on the plate. My only negatives has to do with the flies that were a persistent pest during the entire meal. Much more than a slight or occasional annoyance. Staff provided some repellent spray which when applied in the tight patio area allows for overspray to permeate. The addition of some supplementary air handling would have been greatly appreciated. If you are going to seat people outdoors for upscale dining then this is a necessary accommodation or just don’t offer the option. I do not harbor any resentment toward the staff that did their best and were empathetic however management did not equip them for success. Most likely I will not return. I was looking forward to this experience and my expectations were not met.
Finally a place we can call a restaurant in the area !!! No French fries , no cheese curds , no burgers , no expensive steaks that are not good !!! Just some good créations with good ingredients and a very nice presentation! The place by itself is really nice , good atmosphere and good service !! The only thing I would say is do not put this wine sausage in your house charcuterie plate !! Replace it with some « pâté » or foie gras other than that everything was perfect with a good wine selection ! Your Saint Joseph was awesome !!! We will be back for sure and keep up the great job guys !! And regarding the price it is not higher than those disgusting steak house like Texas Road house or Outback !! Big up
Great culinary experience. Their seasonal lemonades are delicious I had the blackberry as well as the ginger one and refreshing. Our server Jenn was very courteous and attentive.
It’s always a marvelous time at Cobble Hill. We had a reservation for a group of 7 and can’t recommend it enough! Food: The menu is updated seasonally, items are made from scratch, and they try to source their ingredients locally. We started with the gnocchi, which was soft and melts in your mouth. I had the flat iron steak and my partner had the pork belly. For dessert, we had the Chai Mille-Feuille. Each dish was thoughtfully put together, with components that complimented each other in taste and texture. Vibe: An upscale, vintage-chic style restaurant that is perfect for celebrating a special occasion or to catch up with a friend. There is an open kitchen in the back that has bar seating where you can watch the food be prepped. Service: Wonderful! The staff are very knowledgeable of the ever changing menu and you can tell they respect the chef’s craft. They will wipe down the table between courses and change out silverware, which is very nice. Parking: Street parking downtown Cedar Rapids Would I return?: YES!
