What a beautiful and wonderful place to vacation. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. The one thing that I think could be improved would be a little extra deep cleaning as well as an upgrade to the cooking equipment, I couldn't use much of it because of the damage. This was true for both of the cabins we stayed in.Rooms: 4/5
Tucked away on North Vancouver Island this amazing place is a must stay. From the beautiful beach to the Estuary and on to the spacious camp sites Cluxewe has an abundance of outdoor experences. The grounds and amenities are clean and well maintained. Big thank you to the staff and managers for a wonderful stay.Service: 4/5
There is no question this is a magical place. However this campground is not as nice as the some of the reviews exaggerate. People come here to fish and they seem to overlook the problems. The sites are not spacious - they are close together - maybe better than most private RV parks but not like BC Parks. The showers and bathrooms are very dirty - the corners have not been cleaned in years and they were slapped together with leftover materials. The water is not potable - dangerously contaminated with manganese - yet we paid for this water. Just down the road, the Orca Sand and Gravel Mine conveyor belt operates all night providing loud industrial noise to keep you awake. The general vibe is disrepair - broken picnic tables, unpainted everything, garbage overflowing, overgrown fire pits, unkept grounds, broken toilets, unsafe lightbulbs in the shower stalls, etc - this all points to poorly managed. It’s a gem in the rough. Could be a lot nicer with some care and basic maintenance. That likely will not happen - there is no care here.
Went camping there, was blown away by the area- landscapes, sites, beach accesses, wildlife...bathroom/shower was a little far to access quickly, and the water was non drinkable, and came out brownish...ships horns in the night took a little bit to get used to....all around experience, i would go back again, book strategically. Driving up Vancouver island is a breese and most beautiful.
My family camped here for 3 nights in July - this place is super beautiful, well run & mellow! The campground is kept very clean & organized. Check-in was smooth & you can buy firewood & ice on site. The staff are super nice & helpful. The beach here is amazing - covered in interesting shells & rocks. We watched eagles eat their breakfast at low tide.
Campsites are great, especially if you can get a water front one. The rates are very reasonable and the cabins are very nice, also reasonably priced. The fishing was fabulous right off shore, several pinks caught, we released them as we have enough fish. The laundry and the washrooms and showers are clean and only $1 for a 6 min shower.
Great camping with an unbeatable view. Stayed here for the Canada Day Long Weekend and really enjoyed our stay. Not much privacy but most people were very respectful, so it wasn’t an issue. Washrooms we’re clean and easily accessible, well priced firewood, and not too expensive. Would love to stay here again.
We stayed in a two room cabin that was adorable! Right on the beach with salmon all but jumping in the net. Such a beautiful location. We will definitely be coming back often. A true hidden gem.Rooms: 4/5
It is a very well run resort. It has several cabins, a lot of serviced RV sites and several sports for tenting. It's a quiet resort, good for families. I would have given it 5 stars, except you could only use the water for showers and washing dishes. Not the worst thing that could happen camping. We found lots of cheap water at the IGA in Port McNeill.
This is our second time camping here and it is such a beautiful spot. The staff are super friendly and need to be respected! They are on a well system and they have non potable water due to. A high concentration of manganese. Please remember to bring your own drinking water it is in their terms and agreement however many dont read this - it is hard to find large bottles of water to fill once you are up here. Port McNeil has a water tap at the top of their boat ramp for kayakers and boaters. They put in a new well a couple years back but every once and a while the well goes down and there is noooo water. If you are in a RV/Trailer I suggest making sure you always have water in your tank just in case. Once they become aware of the issue they fix it as fast as they can - please dont take it out on the staff!!! Xx The surrounding beach and water area is beautiful - lots of places to fish from the shore. Beginning of August the pink salmon were jumping everywhere! There is a nice river that runs along the back side where 2 bear like to hang out and fish. I dont think they care about people too much and tend to stay away. I did not see them inside the camp site. The grounds are well kept but dusty so dont expect your cars/trucks etc to stay clean. There is noooo washing of anything in the campsite. The views are spectacular. You can paddle/kayak in the estuary just be mindful of walking on the restoration and habitat areas. When fires are not banned, having a fire on the beach is where it is at. Cluxewe is close to both Port McNeil and Port Hardy and there are so many day trips you can do from here it is the perfect location!
