Story

Here in the Silver Mining Capital of the World and Center of the Universe – Historic Wallace, Idaho – there is a long-standing history of beer – in both the brewing and the enjoyment!

City Limits Brew Pub, home of North Idaho Mountain Brew, joins an impressive list of breweries housed in Wallace throughout the years including Sunset Brewing Company, Gem State Brewery, Deluxe Brewing, and Wallace Brewing.

North Idaho Mountain Brew was licensed in 2008 when Mark Burmeister utilized a 10 gallon brewing system in his home garage to develop microbrews and began distribution to local establishments like the Red Light Garage, Lookout Pass Ski Area, and Silver Mountain Resort.

In 2010, a group of partners purchased this building at 108 Nine Mile Road and the adjacent RV park. The building, which has a 100+ year history, was first constructed in 1906 as a warehouse. The Northern Pacific Railroad Depot originally sat at the foot of our property until 1986, when it was moved about 100 yards south to its present museum location so the freeway overpass construction could begin.

When we acquired the property in 2010, our building contained the Up the Creek Saloon, the restroom/shower facilities for the adjacent Down by the Depot RV Park, and three additional apartments. Other earlier businesses in our building have included J.J. Sutphen Freight, Pacific Fruit & Produce Company, and Mogey’s Distributing (a beer distributor).

Don Hofmann began our extensive remodeling project by gutting out the entire building to the original posts and concrete walls. At the same time, we built the new restroom/shower house facility for our Wallace RV Park, and added 3 log guest cabins and RV office to the original 43 RV sites.

The original freight elevator in the center of the Pub, is still fully functional and nowadays is used to haul restaurant supplies to the storage area below. Another unique feature of this property is that Nine Mile Creek flows along side the RV Park, and continues underneath the building directly below the brewery and kitchen. At the bottom of our property, the creek meets up with the South Fork of the Coeur d’Alene River.

In May of 2011, we opened the doors to City Limits Pub. Along with a historic liquor license that came with the building and 4 North Idaho Mountain Brews on tap, we began serving our first drinks. By June, our new 7 barrel (217 gallon) Premier System went into full beer brewing production.

The entire brewery sits just behind the wall of the bar and tours are available, if you are interested – just ask! All of the taps at the bar feature the beers that we brew in-house, and these varieties always include some of the original favorites: Sunset Red, Mountain Top Amber, and Loft Honey. North Idaho Mountain Brew is also distributed and served on tap at many watering holes throughout the Silver Valley and Coeur d’Alene.

In June of 2012, City Limits Pub & Grill opened with a full menu, pairing delicious food with great brews – a winning combination. Our Head Chef, Ronikae, developed a unique pub fare menu which features an array of fresh family-friendly choices, including gluten-free and vegetarian options. All of our menu items are cooked from scratch and to order, including breads baked on site. Be sure to see our beer and food pairing menu to select which North Idaho Mountain Brew might go best with your meal.

In 2015, the name City Limits Pub & Grill was changed to City Limits Brew Pub. Together with North Idaho Mountain Brew and the Wallace RV Park, City Limits Brew Pub welcomes you to our home away from home, “where strangers meet and friends gather”.

We frequently host special events and can also accommodate private functions. To reserve for a private party, please speak with one of our managers.

Our Silver Valley Brew Club meets on the first and third Thursdays at 6PM, and is the best way to connect with your local community of homebrewers.

The first time I went to this place was within the first six months of its grand opening, and I had just about the best experience I have ever had in a restaurant. The environment was great (and that still hasn't changed), the staff was super delightful and helpful, and the food was some of the best I have ever had. I have been back numerous times since then (and will continue to be back a number of times more), but it just isn't quite the same. I think the success they have gotten has given them a sense that they don't have to try as hard anymore. The food is good, but it could be better. The staff is mostly friendly but could be more helpful in the ordering process. If you're passing through town, it's definitely worth checking out as it is still the best restaurant in town, but it was better in the past. I hope they get back to their former glory sometime soon.

We went to City Limits after an exhausting day of moving. Our waitress Shannon was fabulous! My husband can be somewhat of a smartass (in a joking way) and the two of them joking was a great way to leave stress behind. The building is awesome, with tons of local history. She did warn us that it could be up to 45 minutes to have food prepared (maybe took 30 minutes at most) and we appreciated the heads up. We tried several varieties of their local beers and loved each one. The Reuben sandwich with sweet potato fries that I ordered was really yummy on marbled rye bread, and my husband's Philly cheese steak sandwich with regular fries was also good. We will definitely be heading here again! We have returned to City Limits multiple times. In our experience, service is either awesome... Or awful. There's really no in between. Tonight we had our order taken, delivered.... And never saw our server again. We would have happily ordered a second round of beers, if someone was available. Then our server asks why we don't want anything else, after being MIA for over an hour? I wish this was a one time experience, but it wasn't. It's either great, or awful; no in between.

This place was great! They have outside patio dining but it wasn't open on the day we visited (I didn't ask why - it was a nice day so not sure). We were travelling with our dog and it was too warm to leave him in the car. The waitress said that we could order inside and then sit outside with our dog. But we didn't have to.... the waitress continued to help us outside, checked on us frequently and gave us great service even though the outside wasn't open - so nice of her! We had the raspberry wheat beer and the porter and both were good. For food we got the Miner's Delight burger and the Black and Blue burger with chicken instead of beef. Again - very yummy! The food and beers were great deals $9 and $10.50 for the burgers with tons of fries and the beers were happy hour priced at $3 for a pint. Great place! If you are in the neighborhood give it a try! Oh.... and the river goes under the building - how cool it that!!

Atmosphere is decent. Service has gotten way better over the last year. Food is typical microwaved or deep fried chain food so I wouldn't recommend this place for special ocassions. Good for a quick appetizer and a beer.
