Terrible mainland China folks presenting to do business as Japanese. Need to go learn how Japanese actually treat customers. I tipped them well despite having to take everything ourselves but the worst part was asking for a little bit of hot water for my baby in his water bottle as he had a cold and we did not want to give him ice water. I was literally shocked that they would say NO to a half a cup of hot drinking water? The stupid people offered me tap water for the kid. I just went to MacDonalds next door and they were happy to put a little hot water in my kid’s water bottle despite being so busy. I am not a racist as I am an immigrant myself but at the very least they need to respect what we stand as Canadians. They are given business licenses without actually looking into their customer service. They are lucky to have monopoly in Banff but soon they will get wiped out and I wish that for them. Terrible cheap and disgusting.

Very decent Japanese cuisine! Worth a try at least once if you're in Banff! Expect at least 30 mins wait usually, but you won't regret it.

Chaya reminds me of the food courts I've eaten at in Japan. The menu consists of mainstream Japanese comfort food and although it's technically a restaurant, you're expected to pay for your food up front and you're also expected to get your own cutlery, napkins and water. Customer service isn't a strong point (much like at a food court) but if you're looking for a quick meal which is reasonably priced (for Banff), you can't go wrong with Chaya. I've been there dozens of times and my recommendation would be the tan-tan ramen or the katsu curry. Perhaps a little on the heavy and spicy side of things but quite filling and authentic.

Food quality is ok but I don't understand why they keep asking more tip I can say they are nothing different as shopping mall food court. everything you have to take your own with out the meal. I gave them tip 15%off our meal but feel uncomfortable they seems like more tip... I hope they realize If they better customer service and better tip for them Also don't push to customer to leave (they ask 2times to finished my meal that was also awful experience)

A very efficient system of taking in customers. If there are no tables, they give you a time and number with a 5 min window of when to arrive and claim your table. No fancy buzzard, no fancy app; just simple Japanese efficiency. And great authentic Japanese food.
